I completely forgot! We had a cat who once learned that exercise balls can explode! Which is exactly what happened when she attacked one of these balls, cornered it, and either clawed or bit it very hard! The ball was somewhat deflated making it easier to bite into it.
Showed up on my Facebook feed. I donât think the humor here is intentional, but it sure is ironic. Read closelyâŠ
Those tittle pages can be a doozyâŠ
Whoops!
âIâll take book tittles for 1,000 Alexâ (I could swear I heard that in my head - think âSean Conneryâ playing Jeopardy on SNL)
Oh no⊠I have one of those balls. I can totally see my kitten doing that!
It would be funny if people werenât always whining when they donât get the things that tax money pays for. Paving and repairing streets, firefighters, public schools, and police, all cost a lot of money. The point of taxes is so that the burden is shared, rather than the affluent paying for personal services and everybody else going without.
Sorry about the seriousness, guys, but I get tired of people complaining about paying for for services that they receive.
We were just chatting yesterday with someone about how much higher our property taxes used to be in our former upscale Chicago suburb than in San Diego. Then we also mentioned the excellent public school system, the excellent suburban library system, the excellent police response time, the excellent village parks, etc. We got what we paid for - an excellent place to raise our son.
I do not mind paying property taxes, as Iâm quite aware what we pay for, but when your city sits for 3 months on an expedited permit for which we paid extra so our deck can be rebuilt 1:1 and not a thing different, because they said so, it gets irritating.
Your experience is irritating indeed. ((((hugs))))
It helps me to remind myself that one of the reasons it is so irritating is that most of the time government works so well and so seamlessly, when problems do arise they feel really burdensome.
Invisible (to us) competence is easy to take for granted.
I too appreciate what our taxes pay for. When we consider moving, especially to a place with lower taxes, we consider what we have, and although itâs not perfect, we feel pretty safe and content where we are. Services come quickly when you need them, the schools and roads are good, and lots of other âbenefitsâ from our taxes. That doesnât mean I donât complain when we get a higher bill though :).
Please move the discussion of taxes to a new thread if you would like to continue the discussion. TIA!
So true! After dinner yesterday, I was scrolling through BBC online, saw an article about a controversial Estonian Eurovision entry, which led to us both looking up the Eurovision submissions, listening to some, watching official videos, downloading the album off Apple Music, reading about some of the artists, then pivoting to reading about the Soviet dogs in space (one song is dedicated to Laika the first space dog), then trying to find a documentary about space dogs to watch.. which we did not find but ended up watching Street Genius on Disney Plus.
LOVE THIS!! We always joke about the murder rate in Cabot Cove, Maine, Shetland, Kembleford (Fr. Brown), the island of St. Marie (Death in Paradise), etc. must be higher than the worst big city you can think of !!
Love it!
Of course being a priest or vicar really helps your solve rate !
I read the same article at BBC yesterday and ended up stuck with the song in my head all nightâŠdecided I might as well watch it again today with my kid since it was on repeat in my brain anyways. Sorry to the offended Italians I guessâŠ
