Case Western PPSP Medicine

accepted w/ scholarship and invited for interview :D

I was accepted with a scholarship. Do you know how much the scholarship covers? Does anyone know when the interviews are?

8yrman - Congratulations. Please share your stats. GPA, Class Rank, SAT/ACT (attempts), EC’s etc., How did the essays came out (your opininon on 1-10 scale, 10 being the best)

Which program is better? Pitts med ranked #14, and they usually offer full ride for 4yr Undergrad.

I think Pitt’s is better. Case rarely gives out any full rides anymore and Pitt and Case med school cost the same, except Pitt’s med school is ranked higher.

Thanks COCONUTMONKEE.
UPitts Undergrad rank is much lower #64, if final goal is doctor, is that matter where you have the Ungergrad? Pitts biomedical engineering rank is pretty high #12, which one matters more, the school rank or the major rank?

^^^without a doubt in my mind, specific major rank is WAY more important. If you go to a higher ranked school with a bad poly sci program, for example, whats the point?
Case Western is a decent undergrad-but their grad programs are stronge.r they have awesome clinics nearby. UPITT med is good too, but in terms of undergrad neither stands out as stronger.

I guess I did not get an interview-although I did not receive a rejection letter either. Im going to try calling them tomorrow to find out why I didnt get a rejection letter in the case acceptance packet. Good job 8yearman, 4/4 interviews is great.
So far I’ve gotten interviewss at umkc and miami; waiting on NU-although Im skeptical about if i’ll get one this late, same with case i guess. Oh well,

Thanks kbbm24, did you apply UPitt GA program? Do you choose Case PPSP over Pitts GA?

PPSP Interviews are on March 17 and 18

so, if you didnt get an interview notice in the email, then your rejected, correct?

REJECTION! Oh well…I’m pretty numbed up by all my BS/MD rejections,so I guess I can tolerate just about anything that happens now…

"I think Pitt’s is better. Case rarely gives out any full rides anymore and Pitt and Case med school cost the same, except Pitt’s med school is ranked higher. "

-I advise to refrain from judgemen until you at least visit. Apparently schools are different and Med. Schools are also different. Some who visited. met current Med. Students, talked to them and went thru interview process at Med. School prefer one, some another. Ranking means nothing. If one is MD nobody cares too much where he went. It is important to be at place that matches your personality the best, if you have a choice. Most people though would appreciate to have one spot at any American Med. School.

MiamiDAP, i think that’s partially true. Some people like a certain environment of a college and sort of “click” with it, so I think thats important. I also agree that a doctor is a doctor, but sometimes the opportunities at some places outweigh those at another place. If your trying for a really hard speciality, sure your grades in med school and uslme sores matter a lot more, but research in that area is really important. hard specialities require top med scchools, plus better ranked ones generally have more funding-so that generally equals more research and more opportunities

My son received admission email on 1/29 with Scholarship, but no mention about ppsp interview. Received the welcome package yesterday (1/31) in snail mail, one letter is identical as the admission received in email and the other one is the rejection letter for ppsp program. It said there are 1,200 applicants this year and they can only select 85 of them for interview!
Congrad to those who got ppsp interview chance! The University Scholarship my son received is $20K per year for a max of eight semesters. So, for those who did get ppsp interview, I believe you should receive more $$, if not equal!

I’m not judging any program blinded because I have visited both UPitt and Case Western on their pre-professional days. I’m just saying that out of pure practicality, a person would be less likely to graduate with a substantial amount of debt at Pitt than at Case. Apparently, debt is a problem for many physicians today, and any way to minimize it would be greatly appreciated.

Frank251,
I am sorry to hear, but it is not the end of the world. The same has happened to my D. 4 years ago. Huge Merit scholarship and pre-interview rejection from ppsp. So, she went to another bs/md and applied out. She was accepted to 4 Med. Schools and Case was one of them, again with scholarship (do not know amount yet). She did not make decision yet, her choices are very good. Good luck to your S. Tell him to work very hard at any place and he will get what he wants. BTW, D. has withdrew from Pitt., did not care too much about it after interview visit. Again, it is very personal. Never make decisions based on somebody else’s opinions. More so, D. does not even trust her own first impression and planning to go on Second Look visits to Med. Schools before she decided on one.

MiamiDAP,
thank you! for all these highly selective BS/MD programs, applicants need to be either extraordinary or extreme lucky to be able to stand out from thousands of competitors!
I believe kids who are applying or thinking of BS/MD programs are all very outstanding! My S is not lucky enough to get interviewed by Case, but luckily he got few others! Need more luck to pass the interview! (usually 2/3 will be rejected still)

My daughter go an email letter stating that she got interview. I couldnt find a way to select the interview date.

Any one know how I can select the interview date. I did go to go.case.edu/apply/status but it goes back to page which I started with. Any ideas who got in ?
