Case Western Reserve Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Yes it came out 12/2. This thread was awfully quite though - not sure if it was because not many applied ED. For sure reddit reported acceptances and declinations.

Too lazy to check their CDS to see if they break out ED info, but the fact that the ED1 deadline is 11/1 and they managed to notify 12/2 is probably an indication that they get fewer ED apps than some other schools. Or are just really on the ball!

For fall 2022, they had 1090 ED applications and admitted about 350 students.

And since I have the data here in front of me:
They had a total of 38,700 applications across all rounds, admitted 10,600 students, and enrolled about 1550.

They offered 11,600 students a spot on the waiting list, and about 6000 students took the spot. They eventually admitted about 430 students from the waiting list.

That is over a quarter of the freshman class admitted from the waiting list! Of course, that was fall 2022 and their might have been lingering Covid effects,. But that seems like a huge percentage of the class.

They aren’t the only one who carries a ridiculously sized waiting list ( I think Emory and U Miami too) - but theirs seems biggest.

They have a low yield so I get it (for their needs) but stinks for the kids.

At least many come off (due to the low yield).

Has a great rep…but for whatever reason, the yield is low - perhaps because they’re getting the creme de la creme of those who just missed out on higher tiered schools.

Maybe I overly attribute these things to geography, but I would guess location has a fair amount to do with it. Although CMU doesn’t seem to have the same issue, so maybe not geography entirely.

My son really, really likes the school. And if it were in a location with slightly better weather & a setting that he liked more, it would probably be his top choice.

As it is, he will have to see where he gets in and compare the costs of his choices. If he gets in to CWRU (a big IF) and the price is right compared to his other choices it could still win out.

Geez, they should just take more ED students. Thats a bit embarrassing.

I doubt if anyone is working on a Sunday to release the decision. Does any school release their decision on a weekend? I have usually seen Thursday/Friday as preferred day.

No harm in checking at 7 PM though

Some do release on a weekend. Bates, Davidson, and MIT released EA/ED decisions yesterday.

I was about to say this too.

“We anticipate releasing decisions for Early Action at 8 p.m. Eastern Tuesday, Dec. 19. At that time, applicants will receive an email providing a link to view their portal with their admission status. Candidates for financial aid who have completed their financial aid applications also will be able to see an estimated financial aid package online.”
