FWIW for anyone reading in the future (since I think OP has picked), my son is a MechE and CivE double major at WPI. He was able to use AP credits to cover the following requirements: 1 class in the humanities depth requirement (AP English Composition); 1 required social science (AP Gov); 3 free electives (APUSH, AP HUG, AP Latin); Calc 1, 2, and 3 (BC Calc with 5 on exam plus high score on math placement test at school); Physics 1110 (AP Physics - Mechanical exam from Physics C); a general requirement for another physics/chem/math course (AP Physics - Electrical exam from Physics C). He had one AP course (English Lit) that he couldn’t apply to anything, but he was able to use his APs to knock out a lot of the lower level required courses, which is why he’s able to do the double major and graduate in four years with room to spare in his schedule.
So it’s definitely possible. The downside, of course, is that some of those free electives might have been other interesting classes that weren’t major specific but could’ve been fun or a nice break from the major required courses.

Didn’t weigh in before you decided, but I think you applied ED2 for very good reasons and I’m glad you decided to stay the course
I think this is a dubious calculation. Sure, there will be some co-op income… but that doesn’t mean that averaging 4 years of tuition over 5 years of elapsed time, and counting on well-paying co-op positions, makes sense. If CWRU doesn’t come through in ED2 or RD, then it sounds like Northeastern is a workable option that you’ll have reasons to be happy about, but trying to rationalize cost-parity with Case is a stretch.

NEU 100% games the system by sending people to Oakland. One academic year of your life will be spent there. Is that worth $88k to you? Plus hoping that you can switch your major, if I read that correctly.
NEU deserves a lot of credit for using gamesmanship to dramatically increase their desirability over the last decade. I’m actually surprised that you are considering doing this. CWRU is highly regarded. I would choose it over NEU.
