My son “made” our litter boxes. One of the cats, large male, happened to pee over the side of the litter box at least half the time. We finally headed to youtube for the solution.
Google litter box storage bin. The type of storage bin you find at Walmart etc. We figured out the height we needed and went from there. They come with lids, of course, so you have the option of using the lid or keeping it off.
Anyway, measure the area you want the litter box to fit - height, width, depth, if it matters. Figure out height of the opening you want and go from there.
I just looked at the videos on line and they look more complicated than what my son did. Basically he measured, got a box cutter and cut the opening.
We haven’t had a problem in years now. The boxes we made are roomy enough that our cats can walk in, turn around till they find just the right spot etc.
Boxes are cheap and solved our problem. You can adjust the opening to fit your needs.
My boxes came with handles so they’re easy to carry outside for a thorough cleaning.
H and I are just back from vacation. We had a cat sitter visiting our two kitties daily. This time while away I put double bags in the large litter box our 2 cats share and it worked really well. Our little tuxedo cat is notorious for scratching holes in the litter bag!
These litter box problems are giving me bad memories of my sweet girl at the end. The number of pee pads I went through daily by the end was awful.
I love cats so much, but that last year has kind of put me off of ever having another kitty. I feed a feral that has taken residence in our back yard (he won’t let me approach him, and his hisses keep me from even trying), and I kind of get my cat fix through my daily distanced interactions. I don’t miss the litter box issues and feel for all of you who are battling with this problem.
I was taking out the trash one morning and I was hearing a faint meow that sounded very familiar. I saw this black figure moving around on the roof. Yup…that was my cat who went exploring and got stuck on the roof. He must’ve slept there too. Lucky for him we live in a 1 story house.
In other news…we found our cat running around on the neighbor’s roof. We tried to get him down but he resisted, so we gave up and went back in. 10 minutes later he strolls in through the pet door. I had to remind myself he’s a freakin’ cat!
I just returned home from vacation in Peru. In Miraflores (Lima) is Kennedy Park which has over 150 stray cats. Volunteers feed them, they are spayed and neutered, given basic vet care and they have little cat houses to sleep in.
It’s kinda funny to see cats in shops, strolling into church and people were holding cats during the service. On park benches people would be reading books with cats snuggled on their laps.
I was in cat heaven.
My white cat decided to use up one of her remaining lives, I swear! Took her for an annual check; she got eye ointment for some inflammation around one eye. All good? Nope! Her bloodwork came back screaming diabetes! You have to be kidding me. I am well equipped with diabetes supplies because of the other cat. So I tested her at home. The meter could not get a reading as her BG was off the charts! So I left a voicemail for the vet and gave the kitty a shot of insulin. The BG went down! When the vet called me back, I told them what I’ve done so the vet approved the plan to dose the cat for a week and see. Thankfully this cat is easy to inject and prick her ears for BGC. Dog forbid the third cat gets diabetes! That cat is so feisty when her body autonomy is threatened It will be like handling a grenade. Oh well.
I had the feistiest cat in the world that developed diabetes, and she was so amazingly cooperative with all the shots and pricks and even eventually fluids. So you never know. Maybe I did something right in my life and that was my karma. Good luck with your white cat!
We met a cat named Marley recently when we were vacationing on the Big Island. She was a regular at the bar in the hotel where we stayed. Quite unusual cat, a female ginger. Most orange cats are dudes.
Here is my ginger tabby girl. I’ve posted about this before, but we have always been large breed dog people. My husband has always (falsely) claimed to be allergic to cats. My mother passed away two years ago and my husband begrudgingly agreed to let me take in her cat He actually said, " that thing needs to stay upstairs and I don’t want to see it". Fast forward a couple of years and my hubby and kitty are BFFs. She’s the love of his life. I’m a little jealous. Lol
