How is your cat doing?

It is sometimes very difficult to tell if an animal is sick or wounded. I try to brush my cat regularly and when I do, I perform a little “inspection” to check for anything unusual.

Update…

Mittens passed away last night. :`(

I had taken him to the vet on Monday, he was dehydrated (but not badly), but the vet said to keep him overnight and to get some more lab work.

Yesterday the lab work came back saying his kidneys were fine, but he had an infection. They started him on antibiotics, but the vet called me this morning and said that Mittens had passed during the night.

Thankfully, both my H and I spent time with him at the hospital yesterday afternoon, so we do feel like we got to say good bye. Something told me that that might be the last time I’d see him.

We are heartbroken; he was such a sweet cat. He was only 7. Our only consolation is that we didn’t have to make “the decision”…it was left in God’s hands…which is what I had prayed for.

mom2collegekids, I’m so sorry!

So sorry to hear of your loss. Our pets are family members to us,( they just have a bit more hair) and I grieve for them as much as I would a human. I am one of those lucky people who is giving sub c injections to my 14 year old cat on a daily basis, and know the end will be sooner rather than later. You have my deepest sympathy.

Thanks…the whole thing has been such a roller coaster of emotions for us for the last few weeks.

momofswimmer…And, you’re right, our pets are family members, too. We love them very, very much. They bring us such joy and laughter. I hope your 14 year old cat keeps on keeping on. :)

I’m so very sorry for your loss of Mittens, mom2collegekids. I was hoping for good news, but I guess it just wasn’t to be.

Oh no, I had grown fond of Mittens. A really sweet cat is such a treasure. So sad for you and your husband.

I’m so sorry about Mittens. I know he will be missed.

I had to make “the decision” a few weeks ago. It is never easy.

Thank you. Yes, Mittens was the sweetest cat. I still can’t believe he’s gone. :`)

I am so sorry, and I know how you feel. Ours was such a sweet cat too.

Thanks.

Very true! That’s how I found out that Princess (my other cat) had been badly scratched…from what I don’t know.

^^^Wow, I feel so bad about Mittens. My cat is only 7 - you think you have a lot of time left with them at that age. So sorry. But glad that “the decision” wasn’t necessary for you.

^^^

I know…all my pets are 7…so we really did think we’d have a lot more time with all of them. I (sadly) now realize that I didn’t take enough pics of Mittens. I have some, of course, but not as many as I would like. I won’t make that mistake again.

I’m so sorry about Mittens. We lost our male kitty to a kidney infection when he was only 5 1/2. When an animal is elderly and dies it’s sad, but it’s a natural part of life. When you watch a pet who’s in the prime of life go so quickly it’s devastating. One day they’re an integral part of the household, the next they’re gone.

^^^

Exactly! That’s how we feel.

It was hard calling our kids up at school to give them the news. I waited until I knew they were done with classes for the day, so they wouldn’t be distracted in class or during a test.
