I don’t know about the climate thing. It seems that every time I have to go some place really really cold in the winter for depositions or something I end up roasting to death because the heaters are turned up so high in all the buildings. I’m thinking of packing sleeveless dresses for my upcoming business meetings in Minneapolis next month. With a giant warm overcoat and scarves for the walk from the hotel door to the waiting Uber.
OMG, BB, I just clicked on your link! Those are hysterical. That would certainly be one way to upstage the bride.
Not in Seattle! A bride might wear something even funkier!
Wolford usually has a few catchy hose styles, too… like this one:

( Buying the cat hose for D. She begged to have a pair. )
There’s also a difference to me if I’m going from home to garage to driveway and back in a home, versus downtown where I might be walking a considerable distance, waiting outside for valet parking or doing self parking, etc.
My 15 year old has those, lol. And the ones that are the stormtrooper tops. They’re hilarious in real life. She wears them under shorts with doc martens.
@nottelling , I don’t mind telling you what I did, but there’s no way for me to prove it to you unless you know me in real life. I’m certainly no Anna Wintour. And thank goodness; she’s not the nicest person in the world.
Well, now you HAVE to tell us! LOL
I just walked around an outdoor shopping center with my husband, here in the Chicago area. I was wearing long underwear underneath casual pants (and long underwear on the top as well), with earmuffs, a Moncler jacket, scarf and gloves. I hate to wear socks and will wear flats without socks in the dead of winter if I’m just going from home to garage to work garage to office and back, but even I bit the bullet and wore socks. I can’t imagine going downtown, dealing with parking / walking a distance, etc. and having bare legs at this time! Not that hose would keep me “warm warm” - but at least it’s something! But I do agree it absolutely needs to be as sheer / nude as possible!
Iris? Iris Apfel? Is that you? (J/k)
Well, true nothing in my life is going to be super dressy - like evening gown/dress dressy - thank GOODNESS! I despise having to dress up that much! If I did, I would still be hard pressed to choose a dress that would require hose - I mean, if it’s THAT short, I probably shouldn’t be wearing it anyway - but as I mentioned, it’s personal preference - I don’t think it’s a rule thing.
I do dress for work, conferences, etc. I will wear dresses w/out hose (I don’t do ANY suit type outfits either) or dresses/skirts with tights/boots or footless tights/flats. That’s the look I like.
Obviously, she’s the top stylist at the CIA, which explains all the secrecy. ![]()
I love the cat tights. I think I will get them for my niece.
As I start the year, my plan is to get back to a weight where I can wear the Hue ‘fishnets’ - they were my favorite hose and perfect for PNW nights.
Summers are made for no hose, winter, not so much. At least not here. For an evening, outdoor wedding, I’d search Wolford or Oroblu for extravagant hosiery and wear it with confidence.
TG for tights for day wear.
Wow. A lot of opinions on hosiery.
Like many of you I don’t wear hose with dresses. I go bare legged and i think most of my female friends do the same. One of my D’s discovered panty hose a few years ago and she prefers them over a bare leg. I think the last time I wore panty hose was at least 15 yrs ago. I also don’t wear tights. Unless it is summer or a special occasion the rest of the year I rarely wear a dress or skirt.
After all the hosiery posts over the last few years I decided I would try them out for this wedding. I ordered 2 pairs of Wolford stockings in the fall but haven’t opened them yet. I have really soft feet and blister easily and I think wearing hose will help my feet in “party” shoes. I also value the opinion of many of you on CC who have recommended trying hose. I could very well put the pantyhose on and decide they aren’t for me. If that is the case my D will be very happy to take them off my hands.

I just received these in black. The size is slightly big and they don’t have the 1/2 size down. They look acceptable with the dress. I’m going to go to Nordstrom and try them in a full size down. I think they will be too small.
I had to order the sling backs from Eileen Fischer and they have not arrived yet.
This morning I pulled out all my bras and shape wear. Of course nothing I own works with the dress. I will take the dress with me to the local lingerie shop.
Men have it easy
My D found a dress she is happy with.
Mom60, is the shoes a just a tad too big but otherwise feel great, you can try the little inserts that go around the heel. Here is one example:

BunsenBurner- great minds think alike. I’m going to keep the 8 for now. I tried a 7 on at Nordstrom and it was a tad short. I’m going to order the 7 1/2 from Nordstrom and see how that feels before I return the 8.
I think those are going to be very serviceable for an outdoor wedding with potentially soggy grass. If they get wet it’ll probably kill the suede, though.
Cows need to be more washable…
Lol about washable cows.
In my experience, Eileen Fisher’s suede is thick and sturdy; it survived the yucky, wet, dirty Seattle streets just fine.
Reporting on Wolford Naked 8 tights. I wore a pair (color “Gobi”) to an event that required formal attire. Later in the day, I stopped at the mall and went into a boutique to try on some dresses and shoes that were on sale. The SA brought me a pair of shoes and some little nylons to try the shoes with… I told her that I did not need those because I had Wolford tights on - she was gobsmacked. She thought I had perfectly tanned legs - LOL. No, she was not visually impaired. She just did not see my legs up close.
Reporting back- El Nino has so far been a bust in our area. The wedding weekend weather was absolutely gorgeous. Low 70’s with clear blue skies. I ended up in the Eileen Fisher wedge pump. I kept the sling back but decided for a lot of walking on uneven terrain the wedge was the better call. As Bunsen Burner pointed out the Eileen Fisher suede is industrial strength and the shoes still look brand new. I walked on dirt, grass, wood chips and gravel.I think I could have gotten by with a 1/2 size down. I felt the heel slipped out at times while walking downhill but that might also have been due to the fact I was wearing stockings.
On to the hosiery. This was my first time wearing hose in minimum 15 yrs. I purchased the Wolford 8 tights that have been recommended on various threads. I put them on when my H wasn’t looking. Later he said something about my bare feet and I told him I had on stockings. He could not tell. I didn’t divulge I was wearing stockings to my 2 best friends not my girls. Not a one could tell. The Wolford tights made my legs look smooth and healthy. Just a tad of color but not a fake suntan look. I didn’t feel like I had on stockings. The cons- I felt like the legs bagged a tad as the evening wore on. I think that might be due to the fact that the Wolford Naked 8 are all nylon with no spandex. They also ran though it was not noticeable to the eye. I put them on at about 3 pm. By 11 pm I reached a point where I took them off and went bare legged for the rest of the night. In the olden days I would have pulled them off earlier. I’m glad I tried them. I would consider wearing them again in a similar circumstances. I’m not ready to convert on a regular basis.
Wow, thanks for reporting! So glad to hear everything worked almost as expected! I noticed that the new generation of Naked 8 begins to loosen up around the legs after about 5 hours of wear.
I think foot petals or wearing shoes on bare feet will eliminate the slipping.
