CC Job Networking

okay - so far we have lots of “work needed” and not so much “Help wanted”. DS has research summer job, but should be trying for internship in company (Civ E). Whether he is actually out there applying for stuff, I’m not so sure… He’s sort of preoccupied playing his club sport and club sport team management, working, studying, girlfriend, grocery buying… I imagine that “job hunting” is not near the top of his priorities list, but I worry that it will come back and bite him on the butt later if he doesn’t start looking soon!

I want to branch out into private firms don’t know where to start. I want to work with food research but the major food companies don’t appear to recruit at my school and search engines have not helped. If someone can point me towards internship opportunities in the likes of Kraft, Coca-Cola, Nabisco and the like I would be really grateful!

Companies that appreciate food science interns with molecular biology and competitive organic synthesis coursework would be really good…

Sometimes you have to do some real work to find the college recruiting programs at large companies, because they do not always appear on the websites. It can be as simple as a phone call into the company, or as complicated as getting on some other college’s job board where the company might be likely to recruit.

Since this is in the Parents Forum, can we maybe establish a rule that posts should be about (1) parents wishing to network or (2) parents wishing to help their children network? I really don’t want to deal with students posting here asking for jobs. Sorry, but there are plenty of other avenues available for that.

mantori-
With all due respect, as the OP, my intent in starting it was for this thread to be open to parents, children (graduates) and students. In my OP, I said

So for now, I’d very much like to leave the thread open to any and all that have resources/contacts/ideas/suggestions to share, and /or need help to secure employment. If perchance this thread is wildly helpful and succesful, which would be wonderful, we can later, if need be, spin off a separate thread if this becomes too big. For now, however, I’d like anyone and everyone to feel welcome to post here. I do not want anyone to feel they cannot post in this thread. No exclusions. ALL are welcome. Current students, soon-to-be-graduates, parents, etc. We can ALL help each other!!

Fair enough. I didn’t go back and read your original post before I made mine. Your thread, your rules. :)

Thanks, mantori. I hope lots and lots and LOTS of people can share/help each other here!!
