goaliedad-what was the schools response to her pursuing ROTC? Was she encouraged to apply to higher ranking schools? Not sure what role the school plays in helping kids select colleges.

emdee,

Goaliegirl’s school was fully supportive of her school choices given her objectives. And actually, the school is more about getting their students into the school where they will be happy with the experience rather than padding the count of highly selective admissions. I think that would have been true whether she were a recruited athlete or anyone else. And having looked at their placement list, they do have a wide variety of schools from coast to coast.

With regards to ROTC, everyone from her boarding school to the coaches (especially the Canadians) at all 7 schools have been nothing but supportive about her desire to prepare to serve her country.

goaliedad - is it a secret what school she attends now? I’d be interested in knowing, but it seems like you think it should still be a secret, even after four years. It sounds like you’re proud of the school and certainly your daughter.

BUMP

I decided to bump this as a way to invoke nostalgia of “the good old days”. When all were here and we had legitimate conversations. :)

Rad Does that mean we have to go back to ranking everything? If so then I get first dibs on SPS is #1 in everything. Everything! Okay maybe not sailing, being huge, being in a city, best at sports (well maybe best at a couple), and… well… Oh I forgot, I turned over a leaf a year or two ago (after being beaten-up outnumbered by those egomaniacs in blue) and decided to stop quoting statistics on the theory that since all know SPS is #1 so I no longer need to say it. As an aside I am thrilled to see the Groton and Deerfield threads.
So Rad what legitimate conversations are left? We could excerpt all these threads and write a book, but we would have to delete the ■■■■■■ and identify the teachers from Exeter, Andover and Deerfield by name.

Welcome back, Winterset. Your first posting after a long while is hilarious as it contains at least one lie, one rumor and of course one funny joke.

This is a lie. There are more SPS parents on CC than most any other school. I think it’s last year when someone brought back an old piece of news about black students at SPS receiving threatening letters (something like that). All the SPS parents came on and defended their school, which amazed many of us by how many of them are here and by their loyalty to the school. They however choose to not always respond to your appeals. To be frank, I don’t think anyone in blue or in red voluntarily take on SPS as a rivalry. Each of the schools have their own fans. What’s the point really?

This is a rumor. Other than an Exeter teacher who calls himself PEATeacher. Who else is a teacher from A/E/D?

You are a funny funny guy, as always!

To Rad-in-Plaid96: I doubt the revival of this or any other thread would save this forum. It’s sick and dying, full of toxics. Try to get something you need, and stay away from it when you can.

^ I know, I just thought I’d revive it so we could remember.
Why ARE there so many ■■■■■■…?

Benley,

I rather not say but to my surprise a teacher from d’s school answered a pmed question for me and I was delighted that i got the chance to meet him and thank him during revisit days.

I think there are more teachers/adms, etc hanging out than most people would believe.

Welcome back Winterset, you have been missed.

Welcome back Winterset, with your tongue-in-cheek post.

I agree with Alexz825Mom, I believe a significant number of admins, teachers, and admissions people keep an eye on their schools on CC.

It sure doesn’t hurt to post as though someone important is reading everything you post and has figured out who you are. Whether it’s the dean of admissions, the dean of students or your mom…it’s a good filter to use and a good way to judge whether to hit the “Post Quick Reply” button or bail out. I’m a grown man but generally if it’s not something I’d be okay with my own mom being copied on, I don’t post and either move on or edit it.

Folks, I was never gone. Sometimes too busy to deal with it. Sometimes I go quiet. And Benley it will be tough for me this year, my son has graduated from SPS and now the only family will be two nephews at the big blue academy to the south. So you should try to be nice to me during this difficult period.
كبيررِ నీలవర్ణమైన ضَاع

Sorry Winterset. I guess I just don’t always get your humor. As a matter of fact, the longer I have been hanging around the prep school forum, the more I feel disconnected with some folks who post here regularly. I think it could be a “fit” thing that’s been discussed so much on here. I am just not a good fit to this community, and I take back my earlier comments about the forum.

Benley—I beg to differ with your statement. I think you are a perfect fit for this community. Diversity is what makes any “party” worth attending. If everyone was like “me” how boring and how un-enlightening the world would be.

I have learned so much from this forum…not particularly from any one poster or any thread but it has given me tons of things to think about that were not even on my radar.

I thank you and posters like winterset, exiemit, etc that make me a better, morr informed person thus a better parent to my Alexz.

So many of you have been quite helpful to me. It’s funny, but when I talk to family members about such an such school and its pros and cons etc. I always mention things like “Well Neato Burrito feels, or GoalieDad’s theory, etc.” And now, you are all part of my regular discussions. Let’s face it, this is a hobby, a general interest in other children’s placements, and a personal passion. Prep schools are a big step, a big challenge, and require a little luck to get in. They provide opportunities of a lifetime, but there is always another cycle right around the corner, and a new school that becomes the new love each season. It was you all that convinced me to talk to my son about boarding school. It was always an “idea” but, now it is truly discussed as a very real option.
