CCPA @ Roosevelt University

I WAS at Lefty last night!! Were you?

And up to three can be taken without paying, IF you test out of Piano and Music Theory. If you have to take those classes though, you must pay for additional classes.

I’ll bet I can figure out who you were. Where were you sitting? Did you see me? I was the older guy sitting directly in front of Sean and Joel.

I was sitting right next to Sean, actually.

Well, shoot. I didn’t pay attention then. I’m sure I saw you but just don’t recall the face.

All the players in Lefty impressed the heck out of me and the director did one heck of a good job. I was not expecting such a quality performance. It literally sent chills down my spine near the beginning.

I assume the main performers were juniors/seniors. Can you give me a break down on which class everyone belonged to? Were there any sophomores? I don’t think freshmen were allowed.

Hi guys! I really want to go to Roosevelt to study Music Theatre, but i was wondering if they had dance classes that we could take. I just overheard from a friend that they don’t offer dance classes to Music Theatre majors. Is it true? If it is, where are some good places that I could take dance classes in Chicago? I don’t live in Chicago yet, so i’m not sure what I have available to me! Thanks a lot for your help!

There are dance classes offered to musical theatre and acting students. They are off-campus at the near by Lou Conte Dance Studio.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply! I feel so much more relieved now! Do you go to CCPA?

Yes! I am a musical theatre freshman.

Do you have AIM? If you do please email me it: yolkers_club@bellsouth.net. I would like to chat with you about Roosevelt more! Thanks a lot! Talk to you soon!

Roosevelt is one of my sons top choices. He will audition at International Thespian Society Conference in Nebraska this summer. He has gone back and forth with acting vs MT choices. Can one do both? Dance is his least accomplished area…Is that a huge factor in MT? HE seems to think he can do acting BFA and take extra classes in vocal/music. Anyone have any advice or info…I appreciate it! Cheryl

Something that I appreciate about CCPA is that the acting majors and the musical theatre majors take basically the same classes, when it comes to acting. The MTs have additional classes for theory, ensemble singing and voice and other things. But actors and MTs are given the same foundation in acting. We (MTs) are reminded often that we are actors first, that a song is just a monologue with music. I, also, struggled with the MT vs. acting major and have found the acting at CCPA to fill the acting major in me.
Acting majors at CCPA, junior year, i believe, start taking voice lessons with the same voice faculty as the MTs. They also take another group singing class, also, junior year. That is all, I think. Don’t quote me cause I’m not a hundred percent sure but I think thats it. But there is that cross over. So there you go.

Dance is becoming more of a factor every year. MTs are required 7 semesters of dance to graduate and acting majors take 2, I believe. These classes take place at Lou Conte Dance Studio, just a few blocks away.

Hope that helps.
