Except on the phone. :D

You can use a cellphone pretty much whenever you want. Plebes aren’t supposed to use them around Academic buildings but we do and no one says anything. I don’t think you’re supposed to in ceremonial areas either. Obviously you can get fried if it goes off in class. During study hours, plebes can’t use phones. Everyone else does. You could get away with it if you’re over by Nimitz or are allowed to have your door closed. Still no talking and walking on the phone even though the fleet changed the policy. That’s one fo the worst rules ever and it makes life so difficult.

It may make life difficult for you but personally it really is reasonable to stop and talk. Looks more professional, you can actually pay attention to your phone call without driving those around you crazy while you try to walk and talk.

oops!!! did i do that??? :o

profmom- I’m with you- it does appear a lot more professional!

Huh… news to me. Good to know I guess

Yea but it’s still inefficient when you’re in a hurry but you need to make an important call. And officers do it… I guess the rule only applies to mids.

My advise would be to bring an older cell phone on I-Day. My son’s phone was damaged during Plebe Summer even though he turned it in with his charger in a bubble pack. I think the phones get tossed around a bit. Plebes can switch back to their regular or a new phone during PPW.

FYI …
T-Mobile almost NEVER works on the yard and definitely not in Bancroft. Verizon works most of the time.

thats good to know cuz i was planning on switching to t-mobile (not that i have an appointment or anything yet but…)

^^^cingular also works pretty well… but might want to wait "till you see where you end up in Bancroft… AFTER plebe summer… not all services reach all wings/decks!

I had Sprint at NASS and it worked pretty well in the wing of Bancroft my room was in

Verison worked well out of doors but not in Mids Room. Cingular (AT&T) has worked well everywhere - so far - since switching in October. Lots depends where your room is located.

In all the upper decks. there is really good service for lots of providers. For T-mobile, you get very limited service over on the even wings and i believe 1st. Don’t use t-mobile though. It doesn’t work well enough to keep it. Verizon, it depends on where you are. I switched from t-mobile to verizon and it works sometimes but the people who live next door to me can’t use it at all. Just depends on where you are. I don’t know anyone with cingular.

i think cell phone reception is dependant not only on the provider and your location in Bancroft, but the piece of hardware you purchased from the provider. some brands of phones have better anntenae than others.
