Census? Anyone else get a survey request?

Not me, at least not yet. I know the governor is planning to push redistricting after the mid-terms. Perhaps he will use he data gleaned from a new census?

I doubt the governor would receive any info from these census data forms to make new districts. Not sure how quickly anything is released.

After the regular census (taken April 1 of years ending in 0), they send the numbers to the president, then to congress then to the governors with the new number of reps the states will have.

True, but these are not typical times and things are not happening as usual. Maybe it’s not an ‘official federal’ census. Just guessing but will see if we get one in the next week or so.

Yes, the federal government is conducting tests for the 2030 census, which may involve sending out new survey forms, including those with citizenship questions. However, these tests are not the full census and are primarily for methodological improvements.

2030 Census Testing in

The federal government is currently conducting tests for the 2030 census. These tests involve sending out new survey forms, which may include questions about citizenship. However, it is important to note that these tests are not the actual census; they are primarily aimed at improving methodologies for the upcoming census.

Purpose of the Tests

  • Methodological Improvements: The tests are designed to refine the processes used in the census.

  • Field Testing: They help assess how well new questions and methods work in gathering accurate data.

It is not the census. They have been sending these data collection documents for years. Not very many people get them and @jym626 is not the only one I know who has gotten one who didn’t want to fill it out. Years ago a neighbor got one and went on and on about it. They are addressed to ‘resident’ as they aren’t targeted to certain people.

I doubt they do more than keep sending postcards if you don’t fill it out. If I hadn’t moved in and submitted my postal change, the document would have been returned as ‘no one at this address.’ I didn’t get any mail for about 2 weeks and this was one of the first things I got. Lucky me.

We had the crime survey part of the census a couple times a year for at least three years. Someone came to the house with the questions, except during Covid when I could answer over the phone.

Less intrusive than a SF-86 or whatever clearance packet.

States already have the most valuable data for gerrymandering purposes, which is the count of votes for each party’s candidate in each precinct.

We got this in the mail a few months ago. I think it took me about 30-40 min to fill it out online. I guessed at several questions and did not look anything up.

They sent a huge packet

I too got a packet of I think 45 pages (but I got to skip a lot because I don’t have 9 people in living in my home).

I got 2 post cards I think (of course still addressed to ‘resident’ because they didn’t know who I am) to remind me to fill it out. I did the paper copy and mailed it back.

I did not spend a lot of time looking stuff up, and just guessed if I didn’t know. I’d just moved into this apartment building and had no idea how many people lived here. I didn’t even know what my electric bill would be as I hadn’t lived here a month so hadn’t received a bill.
