Challenging AP courses?

I Think I’m going to fightnfor AP Art History at my school.

How could I self study or AP Art History?
It seems interesting.

How can I self study these courses?
AP Bio
AP Euro
AP Art History

Yes, but it’s a lot of material that you need to go through, so start early.

You buy the review booms/textbooks, learn the material, take previously released exams, and register for the exams through your Guidance Counselor or however your school does it.

If your English is good (i.e. you do well on things like SAT CR) then “self-studying” English Lang and Lit wouldn’t be a problem. You just need to know a few terms and a few novels in depth (for 3rd Lit essay).

My school offers
-AP Bio
-AP Chem
-AP Physics B
-AP Psych
-AP Environmental Science
-AP World
-APUSH
-AP macro/micro econ
-AP us gov
-AP Language and Composition
-AP Lit
-AP Stat
-AP Calc AB and BC
-AP Comp Sci
-AP Span Lang
-AP Span Lit

So what I don’t want to self study are English and foreign language because I would rather take the actual course. If I self study Lang and Lit, I’ll be taking regular English instead of AP. :/

So far:
AP Euro
AP Bio
AP Psych
AP Art History (possibly)

Do you think it’s possible to self study AP Physics C during my junior year since I’ll be taking honors Physics and AP Calc BC?

I’m going to self study them taking AP Physics B and no Calc class; I’m teaching myself up to Calc BC to compensate. It IS possible, but be warned, the Physics Cs are said to be the hardest APs!

I think it’s possible for you to self study whatever you want. I’m self studying ap German and art history, and I may add euro history just for kicks.

Art History is a LOT of information, so I would not suggest doing that in addition to Euro, Bio and Psych. Yeah, Bio wasn’t so bad, although me being me was convinced I’d get a 1 until I took the exam and felt good about it, despite my brain going ajljfkjdgfk on one and a half of the FRQs (and afterwards is the standard AP wait panic). So, perhaps you should self-study Art History another year? It’s a truly interesting course (I was going to wait to self-study for senior year, but I really don’t want to.)

Honestly, don’t self-study classes you have time in your schedule for. Your school has a lot of APs (mine really doesn’t). And unless you have someone that can help you with Physics C, I’d recommend self-studying Physics B junior year and then doing C senior year. The only person I know (in R/L) that “self-studied” C has a family friend that is a university physics professor that helped him when he needed it.

Personally, I’m hopefully self-studying AP US Gov, Euro, Psych, and Macroecon this year.

@liveforscience
my school does not offer Physics C.
Also, you are allowed to take only one science and math AP per year.
Even if I have time in my schedule they won’t let me take the course.
AP science courses are not allowed for soph unless you already took bio (8th grade) and chem (9th grade) which most do not.
My counselor didn’t let me take AP computer science even though I was accepted because she didn’t want me having 1-9 or 2-10 schedule while others have 1-8, 2-9, or 3-10 schedule. But after I convinced her that I can handle the work, she just let me.

Ohhh that is a problem. My school doesn’t recommend it, but lets you do multiple science and math APs per year (then again, we’re expected to do 2 science classes per year).

I realize your school doesn’t offer Physics C, but it’s NOT easy to self-study, so I meant that I would recommend for you to self-study it senior year, AFTER self-studying B. Then again, it depends on what you can handle.

Good luck, then! I’m not sure in this case if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that your school board won’t bend the rules if you complain enough… :/

Oh, I see. I’m planning to just taking Physics B in senior year.
Maybe I can ask my counselor if I’m allowed to take multiple science and math APs.

For a Sophomore, this is a perfectly fine schedule, especially since you’re self-studying Psych. Honestly, at the end of the day, your choice selection on one or two classes has an unimaginably low importance on your overall application and won’t be the make or break thing in the decision. Trust me, just go with what you have and it’ll be challenging enough.
