Thanks for letting me know; I’ll still talk w/ him about it. Hopefully, it won’t be too hard to switch haha
Sorry, I forgot to include APs!!
APS: Bio 4, Precalc 5, Calc AB 4, Human Geo 5, Macro 5, Physics One 4, Psych 5, World History 4, Chinese 4
Taking this year: AP Env and AP Stats
I hadn’t really thought about CSUs, but I will definitely now. I also definitely thinking of changing JHU to RD; I really don’t know if I’d be a great fit there, even if I get in. LORs I think will be okay, I’m not sure I stand out as an exceptional student and don’t want to make assumptions!!
Thank you for the great advice, and for taking the time to respond to post so thoroughly!! I really appreciate it.

Not a problem! And although you have explained more your interest in a possible path to a UC through CC (which is for sure a potentially very good idea), I do think a couple applications to particularly good fits among CSUs could make sense. Even if you did choose a CC to UC path instead, it would be nice to have such options to consider.
Of course this is all assuming you don’t get into Stanford, USC, or directly into one of your favorite UCs. Which you might! But having robust, carefully-chosen options all up and down your list is the best way to guarantee you have good choices to consider.
@smtid
The Statewide or Local ELC (top 9%) guarantees UC Merced and sometimes Riverside depending upon the major.
Thanks!
Just curious about the appeal of JHU for someone who wants to stay in CA?
You are talking about Johns Hopkins University when you refer to JHU, correct ?
One CSU missing from the list which you should consider is Cal Poly SLO. B.S. Degree Programs - Natural Resources Management & Environmental Sciences - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
The Clark summer research program is probably the most competitive program on earth. Both high school juniors and seniors compete for the 12 spots. Way more competitive than Stanford. Can you share how did you get into such competitive program? And why are you still worry about Stanford? Cark is so much harder to get into.
Curious about this as well. What did you do your research on? It would be great fodder for essays, I would think. And couldn’t you use the same folks who wrote you recs for that for your applications? They had to be good. Also curious about what instrument you play, as that has to take up a lot of time on top of all the other stuff you’re doing.
And it’s a lot of stuff. A LOT of stuff.
I wouldn’t sweat the math grades.
What kind of research did you do at Clark?
Originally, I wasn’t going to post on this thread, but your thread title is so disturbing that I wanted to let you know why, in the hopes that you will change it so that it won’t negatively impact impressionable students going through a stressful process who come to this board.
Just reading your thread title, you had to have scored at least a 770 on the math portion of the SAT. According to the College Board, that is at the 99th percentile among nationally representative percentiles (source). If you are better than 99 out of 100 people in math and you are saying that you are horrible at math, that reads as incredibly insulting to the remaining 99%. If you want to know more on my rationale, this post has more info: [4.7 GPA/ Salutatorian] Chance minnesotan Junior with mid stats trying to move to a warmer state alright at coding for dream schools: UCB, GaTech, Stanford (prob not possible) [4.0 unweighted GPA, 34 ACT (36 super), <$80k] - #22 by AustenNut
Additionally, Johns Hopkins is not a safety for anyone, no matter how strong of an applicant they are, even when applying ED.
This is the problem. There are hundreds of great schools - and your are missing the UMN, Pitt, Florida and others very strong in your major, if you want to go by rank, higher than many you list.
This. There are several schools with your major or variations on your major. You are a strong student. Look more in depth at several of the schools mentioned above and see where you feel you would fit best aside from the tippy top reach schools. Please don’t chase just “prestige“. As you said you might be unhappy, and that would not be a positive college experience.
With respect to California schools, do you have any interest in Pomona, Scripps, or Pitzer, which appear in this site?
