Chance a hopeful Asian male for CS [NC resident, 4.0, 36, 1580, parents will pay 1/2 cost]

Yes, and lab assistants, research assistants, TA, etc.
If you have time, maybe take a look at UT Austin and U of Washington? Your stats are much more impressive than many out-of-states students I know in these two schools.

Really? I was originally planning on applying to those two schools but I struck them off my list because I heard it’s almost impossible to get in from out-of-state.

Also just to add what I said above about CODA, I did hear that the intro chem class at NCSU was a semi-weeder, so my CODA GPA would be good on entering the university but whether or not I get CS would depend on if I get a B or higher in the chem class.

Not too sure if I’ll be able to get an A in that class, it’s still up in the air because I haven’t taken it yet (now I regret not taking AP Chem…).

If your parents are focused solely on T20 CS programs, then why not consider the following:

Imperial College London
National University of Singapore

Degrees are only 3 years, and the total costs would be cheaper than going to private in US. Could also apply to these without violating the ED agreements for US colleges.

I don’t know about UT Austin but UW is definitely doable and they offer some merit aid even to OOS applicants.

Not very much merit aid. I think it tops out at 8k-9k.

Ut Austin’s turing is obviously a hard admit, but oos has as good a shot as in state and your application is read by a professor. The paths to residency starting second year can bring the price down also.
