Yeah— she was working for half of the year, causing her salary on the W-2 to be including that income as opposed to just the pension she is making currently.
Hey I just wanna say that you sound like a profoundly cool human. You’re getting very good, very direct feedback from an expert crowd and rolling with it.
Also, it sounds like you went through a very challenging few years and I am sorry for the mental health struggles.
IMO given the uniqueness of your circumstances, you are right to cast a wide net, as it’s going to be a bit tricky to predict how admissions will view your application. I would limit the number of high reaches (where almost no one gets in,) but not artificially narrow the list otherwise.
Anyway, just want to share a few possible ideas for your list:
- Goucher College
- St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM)
- University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA) (I know you don’t want the south but Asheville)

here’s the update on my decisions:
i applied to american (ea), brandeis (ea), bard (ea), bryn mawr (ed2) , conn college, emerson (ea), haverford, ithaca (ea), gwu, mount holyoke, scripps, wellesley, smith (ed1), skidmore, uri (ea), ursinus (ea), vassar, williams, and NYU
my decisions were:
smith ed1 reject
american ea accepted + 8k merit
brandeis ea accepted
slc ea accepted + 50k merit
bard ea accepted
ithaca college ea accepted + 34k merit
emerson college ea accepted + 20k merit
ursinus college ea accepted + 38k merit
uri ea accepted + 14k presidential scholarship
bryn mawr ed2 accepted!!
i withdrew all other applications… it only takes one. i did overshoot my SAT score when guesstimating for this post and ended up with a 1440 (740 RW 700 M lol) but i had the right general idea i think. low gpa people its never over!!!
