Chance a VERY DESPERATE BOY for Top Colleges [3.98 GPA, 3/660 rank, 1480 SAT, industrial engineering or math, music minor]

@Getting_Good, a thing you should note is that several schools have a 2/1 deadline. This link (linked from the thread I posted earlier, but the direct link is easier) shows a list of schools based on their deadlines. You might start with that to see if any of the 2/1 schools listed could be worth digging into, and then moving down the list to check out others.

Looking very strong for the UCs, especially if you applied as Math and not engineering. I’d bet you’ll get into 2/3, probably LA and SD. They’ve gotten really expensive OOS, but will still be $20k cheaper overall than no aid at a private school. Also, the fact that tuition cohort are frozen (your tuition will not increase for future years when the new student tuition increases).

But before you do, what is your budget ? Make sure you are applying to schools your parents can afford and are willing to pay for. That’s step one.

Did you run the NPC for these schools and are they affordable?

What is your home state and flagship school? That would be my first call tomorrow to their admissions office.

For industrial engineering the top program is Georgia Tech. There are other schools not on your list that are well regarded for IE.

If you don’t like your options in April there’s a list of schools with open seats after May 1st. You could always take a gap year or look at transfer options. Good luck.

Although I am questioning the 25 APs and what the 3.98 actually looks like on an official transcript - I think you will go 1 or 2 for 3 among UCSD, Emory, and Rice, but no guarantees. If you applied as a math major, you will do better than if engineering, so keep that in mind.

They didn’t apply for engineering at Emory. I scratch my head why it’s on the list since OP specifically noted IE as a major with math as a minor. Emory, of course, doesn’t offer engineering. And if OP does get in and it’s $85k direct costs and if OP doesn’t qualify for need aid, can and will the parents pay ? Did OP check this up front ? Want to be an IE from Emory - you’re in a 3-2 so a 5th year required in this case the engineering degree via Ga Tech.
