Psh, they are way better than Communisthunter’s.

The common app essay is pretty awesome. So many high schoolers complain that they could not excel because of extrenuating family circumstances. You not only excelled, but you are part of the elite. You put your business talent into it! It shows a human side. I can imagine the flea market!

Essay on major shows progression of interests. hmmmmmm. It’s good and solid, but it won’t stand out much.

Why is it too risky for Cornell but not for U of Chicago?
I think this might have worked better if you had centered on one characteristic of your life instead of summarizing the whole thing. It kind of secretly put your EC’s and background into it.

It repeats some stuff that were in the common app essay so I hope you didn’t use both essays in one application.

lol, Mission Impossible. I bet a lot of applicants did that.

LOL, just because I thought their prompts gave me more room to be totally wacky and weird. I realized that I basically summarized my entire life, but ohwell. Chicago was the only school that I used that essay for, and no, I didn’t use the two essays together for any of the schools. All my other schools, I used the CommonApp one. :)

Agreed. I spent the shortest amount of time on that essay. I also don’t know if I’m definitely going to pursue a career in Economics because I’m more interested in Business Admin or Management. However, I didn’t want to apply AEM and ground myself to solely that one option. I guess it was a bit weaker because I didn’t really know what to say. Less passion -> Shows up in writing. xD

Thanks Noober. But don’t forget that your GPA probably owns mine, your school sends more students to Ivys because Ivys like East Coast way more than Cali, even though we are a super-nerd school. Also, don’t forget you applied early decision; it’s 39% rate for ED and only 14-15% for RD. :T

dewdrop87, to be honest, I didn’t really know about AEM until after I applied. I used to think AEM, “applied economics and management” was solely for agricultural businesses since it’s, well, in the College of AGRICULTURE. I barely looked at it and just simply thought that Economics was my only choice.

After I applied, I read some of the boards on CC and realized that AEM was for ANYONE that was interested in business management and marketing, and it was already too late for me to change anything. If I do get in, I might change to AEM, but I haven’t decided that yet. I might just give Econ a try since I’m pretty curious in three subjects overall: Business Management, Econ, and PolySci. Maybe Econ can provide me with a basic foundation, and I can use that to do whatever I want.

-don’t post essays on forums.
-don’t give your first or last name.

I know you’re a senior but something a lot of MSJ kids forget is to get to know their counselors. MSJ counselors are pretty bad at writing customized recs for anyone they don’t know intimately.

Go enjoy second semester of your senior year. cut some classes, get a few saturdays – no big. :)

Oh, and Berkeley Haas > Cornell. Just my two cents. don’t flame me as I go to neither Berkeley nor Cornell.
