Chance an anxiety ridden senior for NYU and UMich [not MI resident, 3.95 UW, 1410 SAT]

I hope I formatted this correctly!

Area of Study: African American Studies and Political Sci

**Note: I know its not a lot but I literally did not know summer programs existed until I was a junior in high school I am from a rather underdeveloped environment lmao

LOR: AP lang teacher who is also my research sponsor(my school is a little different most of our teachers have phds, it’s a state sponsored stem school idk how I got in). She inspired me to pursue writing and believes in my goals.

Essay: I’d rate my essay an 8/10 it’s gotten good reviews but after seeing a counselor I could’ve done more to refine it! I wrote about acceptance and leaving the past in the past( mental health, incarcerated parent, failing a test).

Reaches: NYU UMICH Stanford
Target: Spelman and Howard
Safety: Auburn(id start in the spring)
Acceptances: The Ohio State University Columbus campus

Why is Auburn spring start ? Is that what they offered ? Congrats on Ohio State.

Does the boarding school have counseling ?

I’d assume no to Columbia and Stanford but given your background you never know.

Don’t know much about Howard and Spelman.

Best of luck.

Are all of these affordable (based on net price calculators or actual financial aid and scholarship offers if financial aid is needed)?

I forgot to submit my test scores so my fall term app didn’t go through lol

no only auburn and OSU are affordable I was thinking of going to a cc and transferring out

Columbia and Stanford meet need. Are they still not affordable per the net price calculators.

If OSU is affordable, you have a wonderful spot to land if you decide to go in fall.

Congratulations on your acceptances so far! I’m personally not a big fan of programs that start in the spring as so of the formation of social bonds is happening in the fall (and the overwhelming majority of first years are adjusting together). If Auburn is of serious interest, I would see if you could submit an appeal to be accepted for the fall.

With respect to Howard and Spelman, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into at least one of them. Your reaches are just that…they are low probability admits for all.

Did you apply to any of your in-state publics? If you’re attending the school I think you are, your state has PWIs and HBCU publics. Of course, I realize some students come on here and don’t necessarily list all of the schools they’ve applied to.

Anyway, wishing you the best!

True - what’s in state ? If Bama, they can apply Bama, UAH, UAB, the directionals etc.

I did apply to state schools! Huntsville A&M UAB South and a couple of others!

I think you’ll get into NYU. You’ve got a great narrative with your interests and I could see them seeing you as a fit for their class.

I also think Spelman and Howard will be a yes.

Stanford, probably not.

U Michigan, probably not.

I’d echo that Ohio State is a phenomenal school and if affordable would be a great launch for your big dreams! Congratulations on your acceptances!

For colleges doing holistic admission reviews (and the remaining ones for this student do so), they will be looking at the complete application, and how this fulfills institutional needs. This student has much to offer.

At this point, it’s a wait and see.

Strong student, and I wish her luck!

Thank you! I will make sure to hopefully I’ll have some good news!
