Extracurriculars
(Include leadership, summer activities, competitions, volunteering, and work experience)

Built a 1971 Duster from scratch (salvaged broken down/used parts, bought a rusty car shell, sold for 11k profit).

Restored and modified a 2009 Ducatti Monster 696 bought from auction for around $2,000, fully modified and fixed, sold for around 4k.

Fixed a 440 stroker Dodge engine for a family friend. Replaced cylinders and fixed tune map.

Interned at Emirates Airlines. Won’t get into details, but I basically ‘shadowed’ aircraft engineers and spoke with some pilots.

Self taught JS, and managed a database for a large video game server (250+ players online daily). Coded custom vehicle paramaters and designed a few cars for that server.

Tutored Calc 1/2 students that studied at our local university.

Self taught multivariable calculus.

Summer camp counselor.

Family responsibilites, took care of my 2 nephews and niece. Routinely babysit them for about 4 hours weekly.

Essays/LORs/Other
(Optionally, guess how strong these are and include any other relevant information or circumstances.)

Cost Constraints / Budget
(High school students: please get a budget from your parents and use the Net Price Calculators on the web sites of colleges of interest.) None, gov. pays in full for us.

Schools
(List of colleges by your initial chance estimate; designate if applying ED/EA/RD; if a scholarship is necessary for affordability, indicate that you are aiming for a scholarship and use the scholarship chance to estimate it into the appropriate group below)

  • Safety (certain admission and affordability) Cal Poly SLO, LMU, CSULB.
  • Match: USD, Pepperdine, UMiami, UIUC.
  • Reach: UCSD, UCLA, UCI, USC, UCSB, Harvard, CMU, Stanford, Columbia, UPenn, Yale, NYU, Cornell, MIT.

Congratulations on being a competitive applicant but Cal Poly SLO is not a Safety but a Reach school with a 15% admit rate for Mechanical Engineering and a 11% admit rate for Aerospace Engineering.

LMU and CSULB are going to be safeties since you are full pay.

The CSU’s and UC’s are test blind so your SAT score will not be considered for your application review but only used for course placement purposes.

Below are the admit rates for the UC’s for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Campus Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering
UC Berkeley 4.9% 2024 4.5%
UC Davis Estimated <30% Selective Major Estimated <40%
UC Irvine 12.5% 18.4%
UCLA 4.2% 3.7%
UC Merced 90% N/A
UC Riverside 51.5% N/A
UC San Diego Estimated <20% Capped Major Estimated <20% Capped Major
UC Santa Barbara Estimated <15% N/A
UC Santa Cruz N/A N/A

Good luck.

Thank you. I meant to put Cal Poly SLO at reach but forgot to delete it from the safeties and add it there haha.
