accepted to Grammy Camp summer 2010. 82 accepted out of over 1500 applicants. camp was held at the usc thorton school of music. it probably wont make a difference, but i have an interview tomorrow woth the dean of thorton to talk about minoring in jazz. hopefully, i can make a good impression

Are you scheduled to retake the SAT? Have you taken the ACT? You are interested in a jazz minor, but what is your main field of interest?

Your scores and grades are on the low side. SC has great jazz programs. It is difficult to guess when we have no idea about your talent level in music.

The School is the Flora Thornton School of Music. Flora Thornton was a generous donor to the school and it was named in her honor. Look her up on Google. She was an amazing and accomplished woman.

Prepare for the interview. Check out the website. Learn about the fine faculty in the jazz department. Be ready to answer questions about the department and why you hope to attend.

Sad,
You have posted Miami is your No. 1 choice, USC is your top choice and you really like Northeastern, etc.

Posters on this forum are rather cooperative about replying to chance questions. Posting as you did is really not necessary in order to receive responses.

unfortunately, college apps are a frustratingly nerve-racking process, so things change on a day to day basis. that does not mean that u need to be a ■■■■■.

I think Georgia Girl is the least ■■■■■-like poster I have encountered here.

What is your intended major?

I wouldn’t submit your SAT 2’s, since they’re not required and your SAT 1 total is quite respectable. Your GPA is a bit low, but as you can see in USC’s admitted student’s profile, many students are admitted in your range. (Although I can’t really discern what your 9-12 cumulative UW GPA is.) The upward trend is good too. Just write a great essay, highlight your passions (perhaps music?) and stand out as an individual.

Another shot at the SAT 1 couldn’t hurt either, if it’s not too late.

sadcolleges, a good way to prepare for your interview would be to read this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/689479-sc-kind-university-where.html That will give an idea of the sort of applicant USC wants. The thread was started by GeorgiaGirl, who exemplifies what “The Trojan Family” means.

Please remember that all of your posts are available for everyone on College Confidential to see, so please bear that in mind when posting. You wouldn’t want to leave a trail of insults that make people hope you do not end up at their school.

at my interview yesterday, the dean of thorton told me to apply for the music industry major, so thats what i am doing. overall, i thought the interview went pretty well, and i think i have a good shot of getting in. also, i wrote my ps about jazz
