Very far for you but unique marine biology is at Nova Southeastern.

Ahh thank you, but unfortunately I cannot consider Florida schools :[
I really wish I could because they’re honestly all wonderful for MBio, but I’m a trans person who had to flee the state due to the influx of anti-trans legislation and they’ve been pretty hostile to queer students in general as of late.
Thank you again, though!! <3

I had no idea. I know there are a lot of trans people in Miami.

Yeah, there are! I used to live in Miami by the beach and had soooo many queer friends, it’s crazy. It used to be one of the gayest places in the country, honestly. Things took a wild turn during the pandemic in 2020 though and unfortunately it’s largely regarded as not safe for us by all of the big safety indexes :[ If I had stayed in Florida I probably would not be on hormone treatments, be getting my name changed, etc. and some states are even using social services to take trans kids away from their parents under the excuse that they’re “being abused” or something… it’s awful.
Thank you so much again, though! If it weren’t for my situation I would honestly really consider Nova - it seems like a great fit for me overall.

Obviously your choice. But Nova is private and you will be adult in college so I hope many rules wouldn’t apply.

True… I dunno, I’d rather not risk it - I know the age of majority in my birth state is 21, not 18, so idk if Florida actually would allow me to continue transitioning at 18. I’ll look into it further :]

I would definitely investigate, since Florida is very good for Marine Biology.

There are so many great schools in safe states. I wouldn’t risk going to a state like Florida with anti-trans laws.

For the SUNY schools, I’m estimating your GPA as a 91 based upon this 4.0 to 100 conversion chart which said a 3.7 was between a 90-92 and assessed your chances using this admissions summary.

Assured (100%)

  • Roger Williams (assured)

Extremely Likely (80-99%)

  • College of the Atlantic

  • George Mason

  • Ithaca

Likely (60-79%)

  • Stony Brook: Your GPA is below the 25th percentile but your SAT is above the 75th percentile and no more than 39% submitted a test.

Toss-Up (40-59%)

  • Binghamton: Your GPA is below the 25th percentile and your SAT is at the 75th percentile and no more than 56% submitted a test.

  • Skidmore

Lower Probability (20-39%)

Low Probability (less than 20%)

  • Bates

  • Boston U.

  • Bowdoin

  • Colby

  • U. of Chicago

SUNY has a free application time from October 21-November 3 (source), so if you’re interested in adding any in-state publics that I think would be extremely likely admits for you, you might want to consider:

  • SUNY Environmental Science & Forestry (which allows students to take classes at neighboring Syracuse…for the same SUNY price)

  • SUNY Brockport

  • SUNY Oswego

Hi-applying is a tough process so please hang in there - you have a very interesting profile and a clear direction for what you want to study, which not everyone has at this point, so it might benefit to look at a few more specific options. Have you looked at St Mary’s College of Maryland. It’s 75 miles from D.C. and accessible to Baltimore, with links to their aquarium. They have a strong Marine Science program. Another college with strong marine science/biology is Washington College in Chestertown, Md, a beautiful town on the Eastern Shore.

Best of luck!
