You and your mom are right to be cautious with religious-related colleges, but you’ll be okay there. 
The first trans person to work at the White House was a St Olaf grad. It was something like 15+ years ago 
so imagine now (you should reach out to their LGBTQ student groups of course to have direct impressions).
