If that’s the case, then I stand by my recommendations in post #12.
So before I was just suggesting some programs where I knew you could do directing or playwriting concentrations within a theater major. But would you also be interested if they instead had some sort of screenwriting option, coming either from a film direction or a creative writing direction? That might generate more options to consider.
It seems you would have AP results available through your sophomore year. Of these, on how many have you scored a 5?
yeah for sure thats also something I’d be nterested in.
so far i’m still waiting on 4 scores but I’ve gotten 5 5’s and 2 4’s I think I just miswrote it sorry
OK, so Loyola Marymount (previously mentioned by another poster as well) in LA has an undergrad screenwriting program I have frequently seen mentioned. LMU in general is a top film school with lots of connections to the LA film scene:
Iowa has a legendary English Department, and has long been recommended for creative writers. It is most famous for its graduate Writers Workshop, but I have heard the benefits spill over to undergrads as well. And although I believe it is relatively new, they now also have a specific Screenwriting Arts major:
Drexel (previously mentioned) in Philly has a solid Film School and has a Screenwriting and Playwriting B.S. (versus a BA or BFA, which seems unusual to me):
They also have minors in either of those. As previously noted, Drexel is big into coops meaning some sort of experience opportunities might be integrated into your curriculum plan.
Finally, SUNY Purchase (also previously mentioned) has a BA in Playwriting and Screenwriting:
Purchase in general is an interesting school as a public Liberal Arts College, and my understanding is it is very well-networked in the NYC scene. Among other things, for performing arts it is actually a conservatory school (and a very good one), and they also have a conservatory-style Film BFA. But again that program above is actually a BA, and they also have minors in either Playwriting or Screenwriting.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention all those colleges also have Poli Sci minors, and in fact reasonably popular Poli Sci majors if you decide to go that direction.
