Thanks! If she moves on in the Johnson process, I’m sure we will have lots of questions.
She’s already interviewed with Denison (and Grinnell and Oberlin),but no extra essays have popped up yet. At this point, she could probably write a decent one in her sleep after all the ones she’s already cranked out.
First, Good luck to your DD. Have 2 kids. 1 got the presidential free ride to UNC had great EC’s and a 36. They went to another school. 1 got Morehead-Cain at UNC and Johnson at W&L. They also went to another school. I will say the people who run the Johnson are amazing people and W&L was harder to turn down than UNC. I think you are on the right track. Bucknell gave us great aid. 1 got the top Kenyon scholarship but that brought it down to $35,000.
Sounds like you have some amazing kiddos! I think my D25’s ECs are pretty good. I was giving a highlight reel. They especially read well in NC where Governor’s school and SVSM are recognized. I think these scholarships do depend on who reads your applications and if they connect with you. Who knows how they will play out, but I hope she gets something to a school she wants. If not, we are so lucky to have amazing in state options that don’t break the bank.
I about died at “struck by lightning while looking at a unicorn”. Too funny. Mine passed up honors college at NC State for UNC. I am not convinced it was the right choice, but she loves UNC so far. The psych program is so much harder there than everywhere else. Even the BA!
Do you know how it is at other schools ? Many schools, even lesser names, have very rigorous programs.
When chasing merit while top schools may have a few full tuition or close to it scholarships to get you to your 27K COA your best chances are to look at some mid tier schools if money is the limiting factor and you said you do not qualify for need base aid.
For LAC K college, Wooster or Wheaton for example
My daughter took orgo 1 and 2 at UNC. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
How do you know?
The requirements. None of the other schools to which she was accepted required Calculus, another quant class (beyond stats) and another science class (beyond biology and chemistry). Most required stats and one science course. These were schools not as highly ranked, but one was NC State, which is still a great school!
Hopefully my daughter will get in so we will have orgo questions!
Okay- so you were comparing it to the schools that your daughter applied to. I misunderstood.
