As others have said, it’s not an easy admit but if your kid wants it above all others, I think ED is a good option. Unless kid wants to take SAT again and thinks it will change significantly, I’d focus on developing good essays to describe fit. Also, I’d think about what other schools might be attractive for the RD (or possibly ED2) rounds. What about Dartmouth appeals? (That may help with thinking about “fit” and essays also). There are some great smaller New England LACs that I think may have similar vibes/crossover apps (maybe Williams, Middlebury, Colby, though these without greek life, Cornell, Colgate, etc.) These aren’t easy admits either but may be of interest.
I would also say from personal experience that comparing the two records is some what helpful but not reliable. My first got into a HYP Ivy and my second had a better record and scores and did not even get waitlisted at it. But got into a few other Ivies. I would suggest if you retest at all instead of a SAT retake maybe an ACT. Also I think the time would be better spent on the essays and short answers
