Chance me and Match as a student from NJ [3.7 UW, 1420 SAT, biology or neuroscience]

This is what I am thinking. Plenty of students get their bachelor’s degrees at universities ranked lower than the target and safety schools mentioned on this thread, and go on to medical school (or if they decide to take a different path, go on to very good careers and/or other very good graduate programs). Plenty of students also find a very good fit and get a very good education at schools ranked lower than any of the schools mentioned in this thread. Rankings really do not matter.

I’ll run the NPC when my parents are free.

I have about a month from now, but my current SAT is pretty bad for Cornell so its best for me to retake it.

I do have to focus on my bsmd supps, so maybe I won’t take it. Or I’ll prob not do the NJIT app since I already did TCNJ and Rutgers.

Interesting, I could do it, but registration already closed for both the SAT and ACT, I would have to do late registration.

However the ACT would be the 13th of December versus the SAT being the 6th for SAT.

Understood, thats why I’m considering Rutgers as my top choice. Since I can stay home to maximize costs and instate tuition.

Ty, I will check it out

I would suggest taking a timed sample test or two of ACT to see how you feel about it. I would do more than one because science section takes some expereience to get used to it.

Just to clarify, do you mean take more than one ACT offical test, or practice tests?

How do you think you would do academically at Cornell as a premed?

More than one practice test to see if worth the late registration fee. After 2 or 3 practice tests you will see if you prefer sat or act

Alright I will do one tomorrow morning, and I’ll let you know how it goes :sob:

How would I answer this question? Like I did some research, but how would I measure myself if I would do good or not?

Basically for pre-med the general suggestion is to be in the top quarter of entering class academically—or at least the top half. Premed classes are difficult and time consuming and you need to do well to be competitive for med school and the med schools don’t care where you went to undergrad (so everyone says). So if you think Cornell (or anywhere) would be somewhat of a struggle academically — which would be fine for a career goal that isn’t med school — then maybe it’s not the best choice and it’s best to aim for a college where the courses where you must do well ( especially if they are graded on a curve as they sometimes are) won’t be as much work. It’s looking at the end goal.

I mean so far, I have all A- or above in my classes (and I think its kind of difficult)

Top quarter: maybe, have a chance

Top half: yes

But, as I’m researching I realize that Cornell doesn’t have gpa inflation, most people have Bs in prerequisites.

I don’t know. It’s more of a rhetorical question, but is something to consider if you want to apply to medical school.

Alright, I think I could, with the grades I have so far…

Maybe look for a reach that does have grade inflation?

Not a fan of staying home. To each their own. But part of going to college is going to college.

Of course budget sometimes gets in the way.

Schools come in different sizes. Cornell is larger. Would you excel at a 2k school, 15k, 40k.

Do you care about sports ? Party life ? Being by nature etc.

Yeah, I have that feeling too, but if I’m looking for cost, then staying home is going to be the cheapest. I don’t really have a choice unfortunately (unless I get into an ivy (lol)).

I think I would excel in most school environments, but I’m not sure how I can measure that.

Do you care about sports ? Nope
Party life ? Nope
Being by nature: It’s nice but it’s just a plus.

I’m not too picky on the specifics of an environment, unless it negatively affects me. Like being in the middle of no where, will lead to little research opportunities, or hospitals.

I think the only thing I care about is weather. I don’t want it to be hot all year around. So no Cali for me.

Focus on the schools on your list. Once you are finished you can add Cornell if you wish.
