MIT does meet full need - again - if you don’t know - don’t say. This is an extremely generous school for those with financial need.
This student stated their parents ran NPC and private universities were affordable. Again why are we discouraging students from applying to schools who offer financial aid?
Who am I discouraging. I provided data and said each situation is different.
I responded to your note - not OPs.
I gave facts and figures and made no opinion of anything.
Again - try to actually respond to the person who came to the site. Who stated their NPC.
Please move the back and forth to PM and get back to the OP. TIA!
Does OP have need? How much need? If their parents are able to pay $60K ish a year, then maybe they don’t have significant need. We don’t know because again, we are not privy to their financial details.
Also, and I don’t know why you don’t seem to be processing this, I most definitely “did not say” that MIT is not generous with aid. I ASKED if most students at MIT are full pay or not. Is this not a website that encourages questions and sharing of information? Geez.
University of Arizona does not appear to automatically admit with 3.0 HS GPA like it did previously (and even then, some majors may have required competitive admission). See The University of Arizona . Note that it has early action, so apply during the early action period if interested. See Types of Aid: Scholarships | Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid for scholarships.
Arizona State University is more transparent in admission (see First-year admission requirements | Admission | ASU ) and to each major (find a major at Undergraduate Majors | Degree Search | ASU to see if it has additional admission requirements). See | Financial Aid & Scholarship Services to estimate scholarships.
The University of Arizona has an acceptance rate of 86%. With OP’s 35 ACT (when the average accepted ACT is a 25), this should be considered a safety. There is a 0% chance that OP would be denied.
(This thread is bizarre. I cannot believe that within a few comments we are both bickering about an admit to MIT with big merit/aid AND speculating that OP may not get accepted to U of Arizona.)
Hey OP!
You could consider adding Case Western as a target.
Most of your targets are larger publics, so this would hopefully give you a variety of choices.
Case is an open door university so you can major in anything and don’t have to decide right away. So biomedical engineering, computer science and everything else is up for grabs.
No supplemental essays so would be easy to apply.
Gives merit without separate application. My student (who is now a student there) got more than 40k a year with similar stats.
Sorry, I haven’t responded in a while on this post. I have already added Case Western as a target for Early action.
I am also considering Brown University for Early Decision due to its work life balance, its computational biology major, and the Open Curriculum. I was wondering if you guys think I would have a good chance or am a good fit for this.
In addition, I am adding a solid realistic Art Portfolio and Chess back into my extracurriculars. Don’t know how much of an impact this makes. I know Brown may like this, but I don’t know how much they consider an Art Portfolio.
Sure - but I would pull back on work life balance. It’s a rigorous college and it won’t be different than others.
But if you like it - it’s worth a shot, but then add Rochester too as a back up (also open).
