The purpose of a pre-read is to give the coach a sense of what your chances are. Generally they will be 1) Thumbs up 2) Thumbs down or 3) Maybe. It sounds like your pre-read was “Maybe”. If the coach is now saying that a 1410 would still leave you as “maybe” then I would argue its not a good sign.
I’m not that familiar with Division 3 recruiting rules, but this might mean that the coach doesn’t have you that high on his/her list. Some schools use a tip/slot system, and others rely on the coach’s evaluation. Did the coach explain this to you? Did you ask how far down the coach’s list you are?
The worry I have is that the coach is interested in you, but not enough to give you a full slot. He/she may be hoping that you will get in on your own, so that the slot can be used on someone else. Note that JHU middle 50% for SAT is 1500-1550. A 1410 would probably put you at the bottom 20-30%.
