Chance Me: Canadian HS senior, IB 41/42 PG, 1590 SAT, 36 ACT, Comparative Literature

D24 went through a very similar journey, with an athlete profile. Her safeties were McGill & Toronto, rejected at Brown with high stats, with the rest being very reach schools, such as UCLA, Berkeley, Cornell

Best of luck!

sorry, completely forgot about this for a bit!

ended up deferred for middlebury ED2 as well, but at least that means i have RDs to look forward to? i did end up being selected as a candidate for the presidential scholarship at USC, though, so generally still feeling okay about my chances for RD schools.

second semester grades have also come out at my school, and i’ve ended up dropping from my PG of 41/42 to a 40/42 because of biology hl, but hopefully that won’t be too detrimental considering how it’s just one point.

thank you all for the kind comments above! the general atmosphere at my school has been pretty gloomy because we had a lot of ED2 defer/rejects, so i’m trying to stay positive

Thanks for the update! I’m sorry to hear about the deferral about Middlebury, but I love your positive attitude. I agree that if you’re a candidate for a presidential scholarship at USC, I think there will likely be some good news within your RD results, too.

Looking forward to hearing how the rest of the process shakes out!

update: accepted by uc davis!

not april 1st but it’s the weekend here and i’ve heard back from all my schools so here’s a final summary with all my admissions results:

ED1 brown: defer → reject
ED2 middlebury: defer → waitlist
EA USC: accepted with presidential
EA uiowa: accepted & accepted into honors and with additional scholarship

hamilton: accepted
nyu: reject
tufts: reject
umich: waitlist
columbia: waitlist

uc davis: accepted with honors
uc irvine: accepted with honors
uc berkeley: accepted!
ucla: waitlist
uc santa barbara: accepted & accepted into ccs

might wait a bit on my waitlist from columbia, but am currently deciding between uc berkeley and usc. also considering ucsb and hamilton, latter mainly because it’s my only east coast school.

Congratulations on so many terrific admits!

Have you visited any small colleges? It’s so interesting to me that 75% of your finalists are big colleges and then the fourth is so much smaller. Of course, that means that you might easily be drawn towards one or more easily eliminate it, depending on your reaction to the campus.

In comparing your options, you may benefit from viewing general rankings, in which universities and liberal arts colleges are combined. WalletHub offers one example:

Note that UCB, for which you signaled an affinity with an exclamation point, places neatly between your two ED choices, and, based on the site’s ā€œstudent selectivity rank,ā€ Hamilton represents the most selective school to which you were accepted.

Mhmm called it

And congratulations!
