@Knab123 Dod you apply to Bates? The student body tended to be grounded and have a strong sense of community.
I think it was more the pandemic that killed it, and then the SC decision helped colleges to decide not to bring them back.
I feel that the standardized test is another valuable data point, but most of the colleges are never going back, I think.
What part of VA are you in? I’ve heard need to be in top 3-6 percent of class for admission if coming from more populated parts of the state although I am sure there are exceptions.
You’re likely fine with your current apps but maybe add another likely or two. Does somewhere like Dickinson or Franklin and Marshall appeal at all? That is never a bad move.
I’m in NOVA, my school only does top 10% so I don’t know any more than that. Out of 50 people who have applied from my school they only accepted 8 so it’s definitely tricky. Only two people have gone there since 2007 so I don’t know if that would have anything to do with it
Are you referring to F&M?
That’s for vassar… not sure about any other school because I had to specially request that data
Any chance that Vassar may be dropping your sport ?
I ask because I am surprised that you were not accepted during the ED round by Vassar.
Vassar College just extended the RD app deadline to January 7, 2024 from January 1, 2024.
Also just realized that you have never stated why you are so interested in Vassar College–especially when the school does not recruit for your sport.
I don’t see any reason why they would drop my sport. I am interested in continuing it there mainly because of the coach and what they’re doing with the program.
Of every school I visited, Vassar was where I felt most like I would love it there. Everyone I talked to about it has been welcoming and kind and has always agreed to help me whenever I ask. I loved the campus as well because it seemed like a whole different space than the surrounding area, and the campus was so beautiful. The community feels there was also really important to me; I know many schools have the same thing, but it felt extraordinary at Vassar.
Trying to understand- Vassar doesn’t recruit for your sport only? I know it recruits for other sports, so I’m confused. What does that mean? You can’t communicate with the coach at all? You said you “fully plan on doing your sport in college but didn’t try to get recruited” but how do you know that you can play your sport at Vassar (or other schools) with no recruitment? Do you mean you plan on club? It sounds like you have some good possibilities in terms of applications, I’m just trying to understand how you know you’ll do your sport with no offers/recruitment- apologies if I’ve missed something.
The team is walk-ons at Vassar, but I’ve met with the coach and know I will have a spot on the team. My sport doesn’t get any admissions help there, so there is no recruiting, but I have met with the coach.
With other schools, it is basically the same. Some are club teams, but it depends on the school. When I say I know I will continue my sport, I mean that I am only applying to schools where I know I can continue to do my sport. It’s pretty confusing, and how I explained it definitely didn’t help, so it’s understandable how it could get mixed up.
I like this line. I think that the colleges most similar to the Vassar vibe are not necessarily geographically close - I would say Oberlin is a STRONG corollary, and not as hard to get into. Reed to a lesser extent. Bard is the outlier that is physically close to Vassar, as well as being “spiritually” close.
When you start looking at schools like Wesleyan - a lot of similarities, but over the past few years I see them separating a bit as Wesleyan embraces NESCAC sports culture more and more.
Hi guys! Just wanted to give an update- ended up doing ED2 to Wesleyan and got in! Super excited about it.
Congrats, and thanks for the update. Enjoy your time as a Cardinal!
Thanks for the update. Most importantly: CONGRATULATIONS
!
Woohoo! Congratulations! Enjoy the rest of senior year. I hope you’ll return a year from now with an update on your college experience, but for now set it aside and live your best life.
