Schools

  • Boston University (most likely applying EA)

This is going to be an issue with BU where the acceptance rate is very low.

Do you plan to take the SAT or ACT?

No you won’t be applying EA. unless something changed this year, BU doesn’t have early action. They only have binding early decision 1 and 2.

From the BU website:

Early Decision and Early Decision 2 are application options available at Boston University by which students apply and receive an admission decision early (see deadlines), and, if admitted, commit to attend BU by withdrawing applications to all other schools.

I will add, with your current grades, I would not suggest an early application anywhere. You want the schools to see your (hopefully) strong first semester senior year grades.

Make sure you know your budget before you spend $90K.

I don’t see any chance of an admission here. But every year some kids surprise us - so you never know.

But it does seem like you are overreaching.

The only chance I see here is in the College of General Studies, which is a spring start, with summer session to complete a year’s worth of coursework before sophomore fall. Would you be open to CGS? I agree that an early application would work against you, since you need colleges to see consistency in your improved level of performance. ED2 to CGS would be your best chance. Would a gap semester and a spring start be acceptable to you? General Studies

Most students who think Holy Cross would be their happy place don’t feel the same way about BU. Very different environment. But CGS is at least a more intimate experience, with more support, for the first two years.

Maybe do one chance me post and list all the potential colleges you are considering?

True, this is only my third day or so of using this site so I’m still trying to navigate everything.

That’s sufficiently embarrassing lol, I really thought that BU had an EA option. My top choice is Holy Cross which I’m applying ED1 to. If I get rejected from HC I’ll have to apply regular decision to BU which I probably have no chance at so I’ll definitely be taking BU off my list.

Please discuss finances with your parents BEFORE you apply ED anywhere. It’s a binding acceptance, and you need to be sure it will be affordable.
