Thank you both - its interesting data, and if I could get the source data to play with could be even more interest. I’d like to combine the by discipline with the residency numbers in particular to see OOS admit rates by discipline.
Understood. UW and UIUC to reach and TAMU to target. I didn’t apply engineering for these schools however, just wondering if that changes anything.
Got it. Would this be just for the engineering college or generally for the school?
Changing into an engineering major after enrolling as a non-engineering major may be difficult. Also, there may be secondary admission to major even if you enter in the engineering division.
Which UW? Wyoming is an assured admit if you have a 3.00 or higher HS GPA. Washington and Wisconsin are more difficult for admission.
My suggestion was for Engineering major only. I assumed UW means Washington since you are in CA. Like others said, uDub only admit to Engineering School. There will be secondary admission to major after first year. Therefore, you are fighting for college admission with all other Engineering students, not just Chemistry Engineering.
I would not apply to Chemistry if my interest was in Chem Engineering, just because it was easier to get accept to higher ranking school. Major impacts your career much more than school name. If you want to get hired by ExxonMobil, you rather go to CPP or UC Riverside for Chem Eng major than USC or CPSLO for chemistry major.
Actually, UIUC admits directly to major, unless you’ve applied to Engineering Undeclared. And to complicate things further, Chemical Engineering at UIUC is not in Grainger College of Engineering. It is part of LAS (Liberal Arts and Sciences) although ChemE majors still pay the upcharge for Engineering tuition.
Thank you. I corrected by last post.
What major did you apply for at Texas A&M, and when did you apply?
What’s your class rank?
I applied Chemistry at Texas A&M. I applied October 28th. Our school doesn’t do class ranks.
I’m just an Aggie Mom, by no means an ‘expert’.
I’ve googled, and I don’t see anywhere that mentions auto acceptance just by being NMSF.
As far as I can tell, the ONLY auto acceptance are in state Top Ten% students.
Your NMSF will surely help, BUT gpa, OOS and late application date will all count against you at TAMU. Because A&M has ‘rolling admission’, most students apply August 1st.
A&M is definitely not a ‘Safety’.
Just a question, how did you gather the information for this list?
Got it. I’ll move it into target.
I used several sources such as each UC campus website for their Freshman profile, UCOP website and the UC Counselor conference webinars.
Update: I have so far been accepted into Oregon State University and Texas A&M University. I received the WUE scholarship for OSU
Are you applying to any National Merit home run schools ?
