Chance me for College of the Holy Cross [2.85 GPA, upward trend]

I’m not reluctant to taking the SAT/ACT, I just haven’t taken either yet. I have AP exams in May so I’ll most likely take the ACT after.

You need to register asap. Most HS juniors take the ACT or SAT second semester of junior year…that way if they want to take a second time, they can do so early in the fall before EA applications are due.

So…check the registration dates for your test and sign up as soon as you can. Some sites do fill up.

Register for the ACT well before May 3rd for the June date and as a precaution register for the July date too. Then after studying over the summer you can retake it once in the Fall.
There’s one SAT date left, register early May, and after that an August 24 date (expect registration in July). You will need to prep specifically for each test. The SAT is shorter and digital, the ACT is longer with more topics and questions. Many students find that they do better on one or the other.
Use Khan Academy for the SAT - a lot of concepts and questions will also be useful for the ACT.

Lots of helpful input and observations so far.

Both of our kids are HC. D graduated 23, S finishing his junior year finals.

Two things to put the odds in your favor:

  • Early Decision: Even with the dramatic overall drop in acceptance rates, ED helps.

  • Show interest: HC closely tracks any visits or interactions, whether live or virtual. Definitely interview. Practice, be authentic, be confident, be upbeat, and crush it.

No guarantees given the stats but such efforts are never wasted.

Good luck! It’s a great school that is friendly, supportive, and intellectually stimulating.
