If an emergency, they have ambulances.

If there’s an emergency in Austin, two hours won’t help.

I get it but I don’t think that’s a fair reason.

Can you ask Wes if they can sponsor a trip ? Take a virtual tour but on this website the feedback is polarizing. I’d want to see it.

And yes you have transport costs - likely fly to Hartford or New Haven (off airlines).

Two great but entirely different schools. You just had to

Congratulations on the additional acceptances!

What is it about Wesleyan that pulled it ahead of others? I think the curriculum’s different than the others, but it’s pretty similar in the other two comparison points with UT.

Good luck with your visit on Saturday. Is it an admitted student day or just a random Saturday?

Thanks!

I’m not entirely sure. Part of it is a concern about a fully new major at UT that doesn’t really have a defined history yet, when the govt department at Wes is strong and well-travelled; part of it is forgetting to apply to honors at UT, part of it is the specific difficulty of getting into the band/debate team at UT, which I know of personally

It’s an admitted student day

Tell your parents that Wes is three blocks away from a sizable hospital center equipped with a medevac helicopter pad in its parking lot.

My D had a similar choice, UT or a NE LAC. She chose the LAC because she wanted the smaller school setting and easier access to true faculty vs TA’s - she is a STEM person. The only down side was the brutal winters. Based on your fit comment, go with Wes. The upside of being more than a drive away is it forces you to leave the nest, IMO a good thing.

Thank you for this response!

Looking forward to your updates!

Washington and Lee meets full need for all accepted students. Is it an affordable option…

Oddly, no, they didn’t give enough aid; but both Wes and Colby did

Wes and Colby are terrific choices!

If you’ve been to neither, why is Wes in consideration but Colby not? If you addressed above, I missed it.

Something in W&Ls formula is different than the rest. They use a low “assets” threshold I know - two x income - so perhaps your family has assets or home equity.

I believe I’m the one who originally suggested Wesleyan be added to the mix:

No - I’m not saying he shouldn’t consider Wes.

I’m saying he got two acceptances that are affordable - Wes and Colby - I’m simply asking why he’s not considering Colby. It may or may not be related to that blurb you posted or OP might have other reasons. I was just curious - not looking to sway from one to another or anything.

Just wondering why Wes made the cut over Colby. I’m sure OP has detailed reasons.

I’m assuming future responses will be addressed to the OP vs debating one another

To clarify, debate and back and forth are not permitted. Adding “OP” to your post doesn’t change that. Please take the back and forth to PM or step away from the thread.

It seems we’re being too subtle. So let me be clear, if you’re responding to a post that is not made by the OP, don’t.

@cquin85 OP seems to aspire potentially to Brown but has been accepted to Wes. If my memory serves you had first hand experience at both. Can you offer any insight to the similarities or differences?

I personally have a lot of recent experience on Brown’s campus and some more dated recollections of Wes. In my experience there where a lot of similarities in the types of students and the general campus “vibe”.

Hoping to help you triangulate vs Colby which I don’t know and wishing you well with B and Gtown.

Just wanted to say, congratulations on all of your many acceptances so far!

You’ve been very thoughtful throughout your college search process, and I’m confident that you will be just as thoughtful (if not more!) in choosing where to enroll. I’d love to know more about your thought process as you’ve been winnowing down your decisions, if you’re willing to share. I’d find it interesting, and I suspect that it could be instructional for others, as well.
