maryland: early action

(i applied to others but the rest are safeties and these are my top 4)

additional information: i suffered from an iron deficiency induced migraine junior year and was very sick for a few weeks but i used the resources offered at my school to help me get back on track

i spoke with my admissions rep and emailed her so i demonstrated interest as well

the app my school uses for college, scoir, lists gwu as a reach/target for me, but it obviously doesn’t take into account extracurriculars and other things.

hi! high school senior who submitted her ED application. did the supplement and the essay, not submitting test scores. 3.6 unweighted/3.9 weighted gpa, 4 APs, 5 honors classes, one dual enrollment (next semester), irish dancer 13 years, girl scouts 11 years, swimmer 12 years, captain of varsity swim team, president of national art honor society and former vice president, member of national honor society, class representative for class of 2026 club, volunteer for an order of nuns in a nursing home, manager for boys varsity swim team, lifeguard 3 years, scholar athlete 2022-2025, will receive seal of civic readiness (volunteer work + 4 years of social studies), as well as seal of biliteracy in american sign language (fluency in a language).

i spoke to my admissions rep but forgot to tell her my name. luckily she was taking attendance cards so she has some of my info, and i emailed her afterwards thanking her and expressing my excitement of visiting campus again. an automated email came back because she was on recruitment. then i sent her another one with pictures of myself on campus, but she hasn’t gotten back just yet because of recruitment. i contextualized for my lowish gpa because junior year i ended up in the hospital twice with an iron deficiency induced migraine and explained that i used resources at my school to get back on my feet. also, from sophomore year to junior year, unweighted went from 3.5 to 3.6 and weighted went from 3.8 to 3.9 so there’s some growth. i’m also applying undecided.

please let me know my likelihood. thank you for reading!

Don’t overdo it with the contacting her.

What’s your test score ?

What major ?

What’s your budget ? Are you full pay ? Or have need. Yes, it matters.

I’m a GW alum and involved in various programs (yes, being vague), I agree with the previous poster. Please provide details on scores and if you are full pay.

The chance me/match me thread has a very specific template. Any chance you could do that and answer all of the questions? Please.

You will get better answers with more complete information.

You probably have more insight and more up to date info but when we toured GWU a few years ago, they indicated that the more borderline your application/stats are the more important the need vs full pay status becomes.

OP indicated not submitting scores and undecided.

Ahhh sorry - I think as you note money matters. But only 39% submitted last year.

And ED acceptance is quite high although it includes athletes, etc.

They don’t list gpa in the cds. But they show a 3 year average of 3.66 on their website.

I think if you are full pay it happens but id have safeties ready in case.

College of Charleston would be a good urban barbell - hope for GW - but have not quite an urban but very urban back up.

If you have significant need, I’d think against but if you’re paying $90k a year (full pay), I think you get in.

But, of course, only they know.

Ps - don’t worry about the admission counselor knowing who you are. You applied ED. You needn’t convince them. ED does that and more as you are bound if accepted.

Good luck.

sorry i didn’t do it like crazy, i only sent two and stopped there. she told me to send emails to her but she wouldn’t get back to it until later.

no test scores, undecided, and i can accept whatever aid they offer which i’m aware isn’t a lot

i appreciate it thank you so much!

no scores, and i’m fortunate enough to accept whatever they offer

thank you! i’ll do it

Does this mean you’re full pay?

yes

Just make sure your family is on board with the costs at GWU which are $93,000 a year plus…now.

Your academics all have four years, but some of your courses are not higher level. Trig is your highest math. You took biology and chemistry, but not physics. Not sure what farm to table is…but it doesn’t sound like the strongest course (but does sound interesting). Your FL is ASL which is terrific, but not typical.

I don’t know if these will affect your chances at GWU or not…or the others on this chance me post.

You can just wait and see now. :crossed_fingers:t2:for positive news from GWU…but have your other applications for your sure things ready to go.

I like your EA list.

thank you! farm to table is economics and government and it is a pretty rigorous course. physics was maxed out believe it or not so i had to take the next one that was offered.

Ok. I think all in all then you have a decent chance with ED. Unless I missed something, one possible concern is lack of math this year, or are you doing precalc? (Great list of deep ECs by the way.) Good luck, please do update the thread when decisions are in!

did not take a math this year. thank you for all the help! i will let the thread know

Wow - I missed a lot the other schools. UMD is a no. AU - that’s where you need interest. They under enrolled. So you have a chance, but not as good as GW. Math may be an issue at Loyola but it’s a safety otherwise. High admit rate but you should have taken math.

GW gives themselves a lot of flexibility with the academics. Expect that you will be taking math wherever you go so you might want to prep this summer.

thank you!
