Chance me for Ivies, UCs, t20 with sub-par gpa [CA resident, 3.85 UW, 1580 SAT, Electrical Engineering + Business]]

UCs do not use your freshman grades. What is are your UC GPAs? Use this calculator to figure it out. GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub Make sure you know which of your courses are given a UC GPA bump by looking them up here. University of California A-G Course List

Do you mean SAT?

I go too quick…will go edit. Thx for catch.

I don’t know how much you know about ECB at UT, but you name-checked it so as a current student I’ll talk about it a bit

There’s no combined major for those two programs–there’s an honors program. It’s extremely selective and one of the best values out there; you get Canfield (business honors) and ECE honors. ECE honors is extremely difficult with respect to its workload, and I’m sure it’s more difficult with Canfield on top of it. I think you’re competitive for UT out-of-state, but I do hope you realize that shooting for one of the most competitive honors programs at a very competitive university, with a cohort size of like 30 out of 10k (and when applying for ECE you can apply to several I think) will be difficult. Good luck! https://ecb.utexas.edu

I would suggest carefully exploring each school, and then applying to fewer than you seem to be planning to apply to. Are you able to visit any schools? The Ivies are very different. Focus on fit!

Excellent list above from @NiceUnparticularMan. I’d add Rice to that as a T20 with excellent Electrical Engineering and as of 2 years ago undergrad Business.

I don’t see you as unlikely for most UCs. Unless I’m misreading, your UW UC GPA is 4.0. You’re a plausible candidate at any UC; UCLA and UCB are reaches, because the acceptance rates are so low, especially for engineering, but I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into one or more of UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCI. I wouldn’t bet on which without knowing more (and UCs are predictably unpredictable). You’ll get into UCM, almost certainly UCR, likely UCSC.

Yes, Rice is a very good example of a “T20” that would actually make a lot of sense for the OP!

Rice is also super into kids who are super into Rice. I think it is therefore hard to successfully “shotgun” Rice.

But if the OP shortened up that Reach list to just the colleges like Rice that really made sense, I think it would make it easier for the OP to write thoughtful and compelling applications for each of those.
