Another factor is that a HS junior is looking at jobs 5-6 years from now… and the career landscape is likely to continue to change dramatically over this time period.
It’s funny - the job I now have and even had out of grad school - I didn’t know they existed, til I had them.

My two cents is focusing on strong fundamental skills development and staying flexible are good strategies when this far in advance of actually starting a career. And staying flexible definitely has a financial component.
Some colleges have a major called computational biology which might be of interest to you.
