I can imagine it just fine.
First, UMich doesn’t look at weighted GPA. UWGPA only.
Yes, serious as a heart attack. From the Class of 2023 UMich deferred thread, you will find plenty of OOS 4.0’s and 36 ACT’s. Lots, of 1,550’s, 1,570’s, 1,580’s too. I didn’t record a deferred 1,560 though. So, there’s that.
@supernovacoach - U Michigan waitlisted my D’s HS valedictorian. OOS, Engineering. 4.0 UW GPA, 36 ACT, 1600 SAT tons of relevant ECs, volunteer work, leadership, awards etc. Visited the school and had a Hail interview as well. He was accepted at a host of other very selective schools so yes, it is possible to get deferred or WL by UMich with these scores. (My D was WL as well).
K.
And Cal is no lock either for EE, even with OP’s stats. They might want to accept him so that they can get the OOS revenue.
Thank you guys for all of your input!
I did forget to include that I’m a girl and a first-gen, and I am also concurrently enrolled in LSU for this year for Calc III and Electricity and Magnetism this fall and Lin. Alg+Diff. Eq. and another science course yet to be determined in the spring. MIT and Georgia Tech are my top two but this thread truly illuminated to me how fickle admissions decisions can be. I’m not the strongest writer, but I can count on my essays to be at least decent. I posted this for the purpose of gauging how strong my profile was, and I’m grateful for all of the advice and help.
I thought that an update to the thread might be helpful. I got into MIT, Georgia Tech, UMich, UT Austin, UIUC, UT Austin, Harvey Mudd, LSU, UA Huntsville, and today I was waitlisted by Cornell. I was rejected by Caltech EA. I’ll be attending MIT in the fall. Thank you everyone!
Congratulations! And thank you for coming back to update us. I wish everyone who posted a chance-me thread took the time to provide actual outcomes.
