Hmm I definitely will be thinking about taking UCs out of my list, at least for undergrad. I’m in Illinois as well, so I think I could find more opportunities elsewhere that may be closer. Thank you @aunt_bea @Transfer20212025 @CMCMLM !
If you’re serious about applying to the 7 year med programs you need to start putting your ducks in a row pretty soon. There are multiple threads on this on CC . You can get a sense of the level of competition from them.
But if you’re not sure about med school, then an ED app to your first choice selective U would be advisable, since you dont have financial constraints. If you 're not sure about that either, then add URochester as suggested earlier. This will expand your match schools.
when you reference getting organized, do you mean the programs I’m applying to or my application?
Both. You need to have a sense of how competitive each program is and whether they have preference for instate residents (for the public unis) etc.
I am not an expert on this. I just happen to know a few friends kids who were not successful because they underestimated the competition and did not research the admission rates for these programs. They also incorrectly perceived that the 7year programs at the less "prestigious " instate unis would be easy to get into. These programs put out a lot of information about the process with stats, and yet applicants harbor some sort of magical thinking .
so considering my application, will the majority of this pre med programs be unlikely to accept me?
I have no idea who will accept you or not. I am just saying you will need to do your research on these programs and come up with a plan .
If you have invested all this time in school and EC’s , you can certainly allot a bit of time researching these programs and their details and acceptance rates.
I believe all of the BS/MD programs have single digit acceptance rates, so yes, you are unlikely to be accepted at any given one (even though you have very good credentials).
I agree with all of this.
Okay, thank you for the advice! I’ll likely be looking into adding more safeties.
I go back to your list is fine. Premed is typically advising. Special programs are different but you can enroll in a college on your list…see my first email…and pick a major along with pre med advising. But you will get into Pitt, Loyola and I believe CWRU. Apply early to Pitt. They use rolling. You get your answer early-2 to 4 weeks. So you can know b4 other apps are due if you need to add safeties. Or if u want to try and stretch more bcuz it’s a fallback.
