Hmm, okay, I’ll message you.
I’m interested in why you’re not applying to Dalton- from all I’ve heard they have a very strong CS & robotics facility and math program.
It’s like an hour away from where I live, hence why I’m not applying there
Hi, In one of your comments, you mentioned you did not ask for your references yet. So, I recommend that you send out those reference requests ASAP, if you haven’t already. Teacher’s get busy especially this time of year, they go away, get COVID, their kid’s get sick, it’s going to be holiday break any minute. We experienced some down-to-the-wire reference scenarios that added unnecessary stress. So don’t leave it until the last minute because you have no control over this part. Also, please remember to write your teachers a Thank-you note, or at the very least a Thank-you email when they have completed your reference for you. And Good Luck!
Yep, I actually just asked my English teacher today
I applied to Horace Mann this year for entry into 8th grade and was accepted. Honestly, I think you have good extracurriculars (better than mine, my application generally was pretty lame), so I think you have some pretty good chances. If you want, you can message me and I can try to give you some tips on your application and interview
I just got back my ISEE scores today and I kind of failed but not really.
V: 90th percentile
R: 75th percentile
Q: 88th percentile
M: 99th percentile.
is this better or worse to submit to my schools or should i submit both to get the reading and quantitative superscored?
I’ve seen many people on CC taking high school level classes in middle school, while I for example have only taken algebra i. Since I take the hardest curriculum my school offers, that won’t impact my chances right? (i also did precalc last year outside of school, maybe i can include that?)
Yes, include that so long as you have space in your application. & If you took precalc last year, maybe take an advanced precalc or calc class this year to give the impression that you’re continuing to succeed in math outside of school.
Alright, I’ll include it. (though I took it on ArtOfProblemSolving, which only has 2 passing grades, pass and mastery). The reason I’m not taking an advanced math class this year is because I mainly focus on competition math (no need for calc)
Well the schools know the course load your school offers you. Taking the hardest course your school offers is the best thing, otherwise it would be unfair.
Schools definitely understand. My daughter took pre-Algebra in 8th grade last year and was accepted to all the boarding schools where she applied. You don’t need to be a super advanced math student to go to boarding school.
I wouldn’t worry about that since you’re taking the highest classes your school offers
It’s true that taking high level classes can make you stand out more, but taking Algebra I certainly won’t discourage schools from accepting you esp since again, it’s the highest class at your school.
You sound like a strong applicant. Your published book sounds like something I would be interested to read, actually, and that will help you stand out on your application. Your awards list is also good.
Have you taken your interview yet? How did it go?
Are you considering other boarding schools? Why is Andover special?
I’m also curious about why you want to apply to a boarding school since Andover is the only boarding school you’ve listed.
I’m also applying to Exeter. The reason I’m not applying to more is because I asked my parents to apply to more schools, and idk why but they just said no. I think it’s because my parents don’t really want me to live on campus, but will consider me living on campus if I go to a top tier school (Andover/Exeter)
My Riverdale interview was really good! I also had Exeter yesterday, it was good but not great.
Great! I’m glad that you have another boarding school option if you are really interested in attending. I’m also an Andover and Exeter applicant, so maybe I’ll see you at one of those schools if I attend.
That’s great about your Riverdale interview.
