If Stanford is your top choice, REA is likely worth it, but only you can be the arbiter of that. Applying REA to Stanford will prohibit an early action app to MIT (or any other private college, and of course you won’t be able to apply ED anywhere). Definitely apply EA to any public schools on your list that have an early action round (UMichigan, UVA, et al).
