OP can also post on this long standing fencing recruiting thread:
Itâs more likely they didnât have the opportunity. Their alma mater is considered among the top 40/50 in China.
Thatâs not really accurate. For D1 and D2 sports, coaches can not contact a prospective student athlete until the summer after their sophomore year. Dates vary by sport and fencing looks to be June 15. The idea is to begin emailing coaches prior to this date to get on their radar. So not receiving any immediate feedback is not necessarily indicative of lack of interest. Itâs a long process.
Iâve read all about this online, but there seems to be a glaring lack of information for international prospects. I am aware of one of my (significantly older) friends in my national team, which fences for UCSD (NCAA D1). They are the same nationality as I am, but they were an American resident with US fencing rankings. I am wondering if such a ranking is essentially a prerequisite?
Sorry, I have no knowledge of the fencing world. I just have some experience(from a parent perspective) with the general high academic athletic recruiting landscape. The fencing thread would be a great source for this question.
I would think you would need to be ranked to be recruited. Hopefully one of the fencing experts will answer your post on the fencing thread.
I didnât mean to imply that the OP would get to that point immediately, but yes that is good for them to know.
How many of those awards did you actually win in your freshman year of high school?
All of them are in this year (my freshman year). I excluded middle school and prior since I am aware that they do not count on the application.
1 day, no reply⊠thread seems pretty inactive, unfortunately
At your age, there is not plausibly much to say.
Think holistically about your personal development over the next few years, if you are interested in applying to holistic review US colleges.
When the time actually comes, be open-minded about what US colleges might be good fits for you.
And if you are interested, start looking into how recruiting for fencing would actually work, consulting with the people who really know about that topic.
It is just too early to get more detailed than that.
I just posted on that thread and tagged some of the experienced contributors
thanks!
