Chance me for the backups?

Hi guys,

I’m studying in a CCC and applying to UCB, UCLA, and UCSD as a intended CS major.
Since my target school is Cal and its requirement(L&S Computer science) is pretty different from other schools, I could do nothing but skip some STEM courses like Physics II and CHEM I. What if I apply LA and SD without completing those courses but with 4.0 GPA? I’m maintaining 4.0 so far(by fall) and have finished JAVA, C++, PYTHON, and Data Structure.

Chances for back-up schools?

you can see the classes that all schools require with this link. If you consider UCLA and SD backups I would re-evaluate your approach and apply to more schools.

Well they aren’t 100% strict about you fulfilling all the requirements. I know that SD is pretty flexible and will let u miss maybe 1 or 2 classes or so for CS. LA not so much though. LA is much harder to get into for CS than it is to get into Cal (based on their admission rate for CS).

My point is that these schools aren’t as easy as getting good grades and getting accepted–there is more to it than that.
It also just makes sense to giver yourself more options with a few extra schools. A pretty common thing for ccc transfers is to apply to cal, la, sd, sb, uci. And if you qualify for a application fee waiver, you get a credit for the first four uc schools you apply to.

Take this link with a grain of salt, because I didn’t look too much into tha resources used and data compiled, and salary doesn’t always correlate with strength of program, but Irvine and SB are both in the top 5, two schools that you currently aren’t applying to. (in fact, 4/5 “common uc schools” are in the top 10, La sits at 18)
