Chance me for UChicago (math major ) + recommend good target colleges for math pls! [international]

I think colleges understand that other countries can have very different curricula (much less broad and less options than what is offered in the US) and don’t penalize students because of that.

I will have to ask them about the GED thing. If I they agree, I will probably go there. Otherwise I will keep my options open and I will defer and may do A levels later on next year to confirm atleast one University.

And if they don’t accept GED, hopefully they will have a different testing component that you could do.

How will this student take the GED? He lives in India.

Apparently, it’s offered in India—at least according to Google.

Reed is a very rigorous liberal arts school. The drop out rate is in large part due to a combination of the rigor of the school and their less stringent admissions process. The general education courses at Reed would be substantial and not be a fun time for you, in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure the RHSC would be impossible to meet for an Indian due to how their curriculum is structured. Either UGA accepts no Indian international students or, more likely, they are more flexibile with international students:

Look at the “requirements” section here: International - UGA Undergraduate Admissions

294 Indian undergrads in last count. In fact, India is the single biggest source country of foreign students.

Ic thanks!

They said they don’t accept GED.

So I will probably defer my offer and maybe give A levels for it

That’s a shame about the GED but I’m glad you have an alternative plan. I would definitely keep the offer active as long as possible so that you have an assured place to go!

US universities usually use iGCSEs to evaluate general preparation and A Levels to see if the student is prepared for/has excelled in his or her chosen subjects.

What would you take your A levels in?

Went from India to UChic a couple of years ago, still lurk on CC. As everyone else says, AABBC is weak (I think most I knew cleared 5 A* with 38+/42 predicted in IB). Also most Indians at UChicago come from specific schools, which if you aren’t from, the battle becomes harder. When there’s multiple 1530+ SAT/ 40/42 IB from feeder schools it’s looking rough for you.

Honestly, with a 1340 (670/670) in the SAT you will simply not be prepared for the rigors of the core curriculum. People who went to good HS’s often find it challenging to deal with the reading load. You seem like the type of person who only wants to study math without a broad curriculum, making top colleges in the US a poor fit (they want breadth along with pointy strength in math), and UChicago especially so.

Some top schools in India are good for math: we know someone who is doing Math + CS at IIT Bombay, and he was also looking at CMI and ISI. You can often follow it up with a graduate degree in the US. Or go to your other options and crush it there, and get a graduate degree in mathematics. UGA may be good: less required english courses for a more pointy student.
