As for why Penn, I visited the campus last week and it was amazing: the campus was beautiful, the students there also seemed to match me pretty well

Yet another reason to apply ED to Penn.

it has a really nice campus, and I love Pittsburgh. The research at CMU also seems a bit more interesting than the research at Penn

But would you be happy there?

I think you have a very solid chance of acceptance at UPenn if you apply ED.
