Chance me for villanova ed 2

yes, i was just thinking of writing about the health issue in the additional info section. i was planning on making it short and factual, as i don’t want it to come off as a sob story.

ok thanks

I wouldn’t doubt this could impact grades too - and no one is minimizing your situation - but just saying it would be hard for a school to account.

Anytime someone says my grades dropped because of x or y, I get wary. Truth is, you don’t now why you got the grades you got but everyone worries about a B or C. People should worry about learning, moreso than grades.

Nova is a tough admit. Try and see. If someone gets turned down and most will, they’ll never know why.

I’m more concerned with your ED status and budget. You need to start there. If your folks are unwilling to pay $88K and don’t qualify for aid, signing a contract saying they will pay $88K is a big problem.

Best of luck - and let us know how it goes.

Did you ED1 anywhere?

What is it about Villanova that you love so much - just curious?

We are solidly middle class here in NJ, 5 kids, 1 income, daughter was accepted to Villanova honors. I really don’t know why she applied, we didn’t receive FA and there is no way we could afford to pay. If you need aid, don’t apply ED, because that means you will accept being full pay if not eligible for FA.

That’s good advice for sure on being sure on $$ before applying ED. Just wanted to add that Villanova does give substantial financial aid to lots of middle income families. It’s certainly not the most generous - currently meets only 83 percent of need. So not sure what your specific situation is and I’m sorry it didn’t work out. According to CDS 65 percent of those who applied for aid received it and 35 percent did not. The vast majority of those who got aid received very substantial grants (average grant $52k). I am certain most of these folks are middle income…but I guess we all have different definitions of that and all kinds of factors can affect aid…home equity, owning a business, etc. Wishing the best for all.

It most likely is the fact that I’m using what is considered middle class here in northeast NJ (and we are at the top), since the OP is from Long Island with a similar COL. I know many here who were surprised at not getting offered financial aid, because although they might be struggling a bit financially, the salaries are higher, and of course COL doesn’t factor in with aid.

Yes! I’m sure you’re right about that. When I went to college a million years ago, aid was scarce for lower middle income families like mine. That situation has improved dramatically, especially at ivies and a lot of other tippy - top schools with huge endowments. Even at those schools, and especially at a school like Villanova which is very selective but has a per student endowment far below the top tier…families with very upper middle class incomes (say $200-$300K+) are really squeezed out. They have become a lot more generous for lower and middle “middle class” families who make, say, $75-$150K. But still can be very unaffordable for families who make more than that but aren’t “wealthy”. And with 5 kids! I mean those things are expensive.
