I am comfortable going there but obviously have some concerns. Also waiting to hear back from the honors college there which would be a huge draw.
Still waiting on Vandy, UT Austin, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, UVA, Michigan, Notre Dame. Aren’t anticipating any more results until Vandy in late April and then results should come in right up until early June.
According to the Notre Dame website, MechE is typically not a major that can be transferred into, unfortunately. Did you put it on your list or another engineering discipline at ND?
The following majors are traditionally not open to transfer students:
Mechanical Engineering
Aerospace Engineering
Computer Science
In addition to making progress in the University’s Core Curriculum, the College of Engineering requires the following courses be completed in the first year of coursework:*
Calculus I
Calculus II
Chemistry I (with lab)
Calculus-based Physics I (with lab)
Writing and Rhetoric or Composition
Also, I know you said you wanted to be out of the Northeast, and I get that, but we have been very impressed with the curriculum and vibe of Villanova’s engineering program for our son, who is in civil engineering there.
So based on your current curriculum it seems like Chemistry and a Writing/Rhetoric-type of course are missing (but maybe you tested out of those with APs?). I think the rest of the coursework aligns pretty well with their requirements and I think the previous waitlist offer is beneficial, but only if they are indeed accepting MechE transfers this year, which based on their own website seems sort of unlikely:( But I hope for the best for you and hope you end up where you’re meant to be. We also liked Virginia Tech, but we were Virginia residents at the time, which I know makes a difference.
A quick update - the mid semester mark has passed and I received a 3.91 mid-semester GPA which I submitted to all the schools I applied to while taking:
Physics 2 (Calc) w/Lab
Calc II
Intro to Psych
Financial Accounting
Received an email from Virginia Tech today that their transfer decisions will be released Friday at 5 PM EST. Will keep everyone posted as the process continues!
Rejected at VT. Disappointed but I can see where they’re coming from - I was missing one required course and a couple “strongly recommended” courses that they list on their transfer pathways. We move on!
It’s engineering - you’re good at an ABET school and Clemson is excellent and it was initially your top engineering school.
So if you’re happy there (I know you have some concerns), you’re playing with house money - your outcomes will likely be the same from Clemson and all the others - the Vandys, etc. And Honors or not won’t make a career difference (you can’t even put it on apps, no one gives a place) - but yes, it can be an experiential difference during your time on campus.
I say that so that you can rest at ease - you’re already in a good place worst case. If you want to study engineering next year, you’re good to go. If another comes through, that’s great too!! But either way, you have an excellent option lined up.
Wishing you luck. But the good news is, you already have an admit at Clemson, and you only need one admit! Have you heard back yet about the honors program there?
You wrote the above about your Clemson acceptance. I don’t know what your concerns were/are but it’s a great school. If, however, you do want some additional choices to choose between, these are some schools that were mentioned above, and I’ve added in their transfer deadlines, though I suspect the earlier the application, the better the chances for scholarships:
