@Nk1237 Thank you for your chancing, however is being compared to the rest of the students of your graduating class in the admissions process true for all universities you apply to in general? And I agree about the subject tests. However, for US History should I aim for a retake? Possibly in December?

@Nk1237 For additional information that might affect my chances: Regarding my school environment, there are only around 8 AP’s being offered at my school and the average SAT at my school is around 1200-1300.

You have great ECs but your SAT scores might be a bit low for some of the schools in your list. I would suggest you to take both the SATs once more and then write great essays. You are a good candidate for the UCs but again, a higher SAT score wouldn’t hurt.
The last 3 colleges on your list are basically reaches for everyone barring the some but if you write great essays, you might get into 2 of them.

Thanks for chancing me btw.

Best of luck!

@LordTalos, just something to note, you cannot apply to Stanford, Caltech and MIT all through early admittance programs. Stanford has an REA (restrictive early action) program, meaning you cannot apply to any other schools early (either through early action or early decision). You can, alternatively, do one early action and one early decision, or two early actions (I think, not entirely sure).

@mikey486 yes I have noticed that, it was an error on my part. However, can you please chance me?

@humblefool thank you for your chancing. And yes I am aware, I will retake SAT’s one last time before application submissions.

@LordTalos it is definitely true for private schools, and likely for UCs as well. I would retake the USH subject test, it should be easy to improve with studying, however I would leave your SAT as is, especially if the average at your school is 1200-1300.

@Nk1237 Thanks for the feedback. I will keep this in mind. However, I think I will just try to retake the SAT I once more to see what I get and also, retake USH in October along with Physics and Chemistry. (: Can you also chance my friend? He seems to really need help

I really don’t know much about what will get you in, however I do wish you the best of luck ! You seem to have done very well in school and clearly are motivated. Congratulations on your success so far, and even if you don’t get into these schools, you will get in somewhere else that is good or maybe a better fit, that you will be glad you got into later on.

Carnegie Mellon (ED)- 40%
University of Texas - Austin- 75%
UCLA- 40%
UC Berkeley- 30%
UCSD- 75%
UCD- 80%
UCI- 80%
Cal Poly Pomona- Dont know much about the college
Georgia Tech- 30%
University of Washington-80% (I live in Washington, next to UW, and its great. Though it has a high acceptance rate, it is a GREAT school, so really consider going here if u get accepted)
CalTech (EA)- 2%
Stanford (REA)- 3%
and MIT (EA)- 2%

Good Luck!

Also retake SAT ONLY if you are confident that you can do better cuz if you do worse, it looks reeeeaaaalllly bad given the fact that you wouldve taken it 3 times

Retake Math SAT II, given ur GPA, you can do better, and also study for Chem, and you coud do better. Don’t waste ur time with Physics, u only need 2 subject tests so studying for extra ones will hinder ur performance in math and chem.

Hey LordThalos,

I’m not sure if someone has already mentioned this or if you already know, but OOS public schools cost a lot. From what i’ve gathered using a bunch of price calculators, someone around your income level still has to pay 30k a year for a school like GaTech! You might have some good scholarships or my idea of financial aid might be completely wrong, but it’s a good thing to consider when applying to schools like UW/UTA/GaTech.

Aside from that, here’s what I think:
CMU - Reach ( Their CS program has something like a 6% acceptance rate? Really tough competition even for ED.)
UTA - Match (UTA doesn’t admit very many OOS students, but you have some strong stats.)
UCLA - Match
UCB - High Match/Low Reach ( Depends on where you want to apply. EECS is highly competitive and I would call it a reach if you consider applying to that.)
UCSD - Match
UCD - Match
UCI - Low match/safety probably
Cal Poly P - Safety
GaTech - Match
UW - Match

U have a good chance at most of these schools
chance back??

With your current SAT score, I’d say CMU, the iveys/Stanford and UC Berkeley are a very high reach; the only way you get in is if you write killer essays and knock the admissions off their feet. I see UCLA, Georgia Tech, UCSD and UT Austin as matches for you. UCD, UCI, Cal Poly and U Washington are probably on the low match/safety side. Retake your SAT and a couple of your SAT II’s and work on your essays.

@mikey486, Thanks I intend to retake. Should I just aim for 2200 range for berkeley?

@nycutie786 Link please (:

@bonsly and @therealgingy Thank you for your chances.

UW, UC’s (except berkely),UT, and GT are all a match for you. UC Berkeley is a low reach. CMU will always be a reach no matter how “perfect” you try to be because it’s school of comp sci is #1 in the country. Try getting your SAT score higher or even taking the ACT.
Good luck! Chance me back?

@lahula521 thank you for your chancing.
