A lot of kids teachers like them and want them to go to a good school. That’s not what’s important in a good LOR.
Honestly, I’ve only visited in state and nearby options - most of these colleges I haven’t had the opportunity. I’ve visited UVA, VT, GMU, UMD, & UMassA.
That your recommenders let you read their recommendation letters? They’re supposed to be confidential.
You mean like they focus on more personal qualities? My LORs compare my performance to others, describe my generosity, aptitude, & work ethic, and give real life examples of my character traits in action. Is that what you meant? I think that’s pretty good.
I didn’t say I read all of them, or any of them for that matter, but I can understand why you might think that, my mistake. However, some of my teachers shared a summary of them with me after they were completed, but it is to my understanding that it is better not to.
professes their love for me, and you read them
Bro what??? Ik my teachers aren’t jerks and they like me - most of them offered to write the letters to begin with. Second, I said they shared a paraphrased, summarized version, which still gets the general idea across while maintaining confidentiality.
you asked me what seemed like a joke. what you wrote seemed strange to me. i copied it below.
Hmm, yeah. I could’ve definitely worded that better.
I agree with all of your percentages, except I calculated 14% for UNC
And ASU is 100% assuming all required hs courses met
To be admitted to ASU, you will need one of the following:
- top 25% in high school graduating class
- 3.00 GPA in competency courses (4.00 = “A”)
- ACT: 22 (24 nonresidents)
- SAT: 1120 (1180 nonresidents)
Oh, good to hear! I hear that ASU is a good CS school, so that’s nice.
Most schools are good. ASU is enormous. I’m an alum for grad school. Personally I think U of A is a much nicer college experience / environment.
Most flagships will be great - and in the real world are substitutional.
ASU, Delaware, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Minnesota - doesn’t really matter. ASU is located in a more high tech area.
Not to be weird but I’m black Nubian (URM), does that help my chances anywhere
Colleges are not supposed to use this as a criteria for accepting students any longer.
It’s not weird. Forever race was an eligible factor. It isn’t anymore by a box check but if it fits in an essay or club name, a school can take it into account.
You really don’t need any boost though.
You will never know why you get into a school or you don’t.
You apply to schools that fit you.
You are a strong candidate. You’ve got multi variable calc in HS.
You have a good list.
No need to overthink.
This! If you do or don’t get accepted to any college, you will never know why.
I agree - while there is some correlation between good grades/ECs and acceptance into better unis, it’s all a matter of luck from our perspective.
